Delivering better healthcare and improving access to clinical research, closer to home.

I can't believe it's (very nearly) already time for TPA again. Highlighting underrecognized needs, which sometimes manifest in our blind-spots, is such a passion of mine. "See the need. Meet the need." "Meet people where they are." "Go to their world." These are all phrases we adopt some variation of when working with one social climate or another, and especially when attempting to understand someone's behavioral health needs. When we validate a residents experience from a non-judgmental space, and respectfully shape an environment of emotional-safety, making their needs known may happen with more frequency and clarity. When stressors are present - making any of our needs known becomes less accessible - and this is especially difficult for persons who have experienced acute stress or potentially traumatic events. It behooves all parties in LTC to have a general understanding of what tools are accessible to anyone that can help communicate safety to the body, to then operate from a more calm, cool and collected space. What's coming up for residents when stressors are present? How can we better operate in alignment with trauma informed care? These are questions I'll answer in detail in my upcoming presentation. Oral Chagas’ disease is as important as its vectorial or vertical transmission Norman L. Beatty tells us in ChagasChat about his work in a study with other researchers, and their conclusions on the transmission routes in Colombia. New insights into the oral transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi are being discovered in Colombia, which can help bring increased awareness and a better understanding of this neglected tropical disease to reduce the burden of Chagas’ disease throughout Latin America. Increasingly cases of acute Chagas’ disease are found in areas where the disease has not been documented, and triatomine vectors are not naturally found, thus raising suspicion for oral transmission. Within the Amazon Basin, oral transmission is now considered the principal cause of acute Chagas’ disease. I am excited about my new role! Myself and Devin Nickol, a colleague from Nebraska, are the Co-Convenors for the American Interprofessional Health Collaborative (AIHC). The AIHC community of practice recently reorganized its structure to embody a collaborative approach. Some changes in the structure included: ✔ Instead of using the term President, we are using Convenor. ✔ Instead of single individual leading the organization, we will work together with the Collaboration Hub. ✔ The Collaboration Hub includes representation from Collaboratives/Committees, community members, health professional students, and the National Center. ✔New processes will minimize traditional hierarchies that are barriers to transformation and efficient work. We are walking the collaboration talk with a vision of transforming health through interprofessional collaborations bridging practice and education. #collaboration #joinus #interprofessional
