With all the updates happening across my LinkedIn feed I really wanted to reflect on LGBTIQA+ #Pride2024🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Something I have learnt from my LGBTIQA+ friends is that Pride at its heart is about viability and openness and, just as importantly, the resistance to shame. Sadly the later is normally a feeling that comes from inequality in the places we work and live, through people's behaviours, and through policies and laws. Since starting at South Staffordshire Plc just nine months ago, I have enjoyed working with the team to review our working practices and policies however, we still have a lot to do to achieve our EDI ambitions as a group and to be recognised as a true ally. We recently launched a new set of family focused policies to support a wide group of people across our businesses, and with the support of one of our senior team (who is an LGBTIQA+ adoptive parent), these included matching adoption leave, to our maternity leave. However, that's just the start! So whilst as a business we have publicly declared our support by changing our logos in the usual social media way, I am using my post today (and my monthly Blog internally) to make promises for the next 12 months, where we will: - Engage our LGBTQIA+ colleagues and launch a new network 🫂 - Review our policies to ensure equity for our LGBTIQA+ colleagues ⚖️ - Review our application processes to ensure it is engaging and accessible for all 👩💻👨💻 - Engage our ESG Committee to have a programme supporting LGBTIQA+ young people into our STEM and Customer Service businesses via good apprenticeships 🏫 - Promote internally our LGBTIQA+ diversity 🌈 In becoming an active ally we will also create (through the network), listening and feedback opportunities with the community about what matters to them and ask for their support to shape our future. I look forward to updating you next year on our progress, until then Happy Pride Month to all 🎉#PrideMonth #Equity #LGBTIQA+

Don't ignore this, please. You can’t create an inclusive culture without clear visibility across the workforce. To build inclusivity, you need to know your starting point. Many organisations think they understand their culture, but they likely have many blind spots. And knowing a problem exists isn’t enough; managers need details to understand their team’s experiences. This is why we made Winningtemp, use Winningtemp, and believe you need Winningtemp. #winningtemp #beyou #pride #LGBTQ #inclusion #diversity

My favourite Transcom value is “we come as we are” In my life I’ve been told that I should develop a “corporate” personality to be successful. Keeping a corporate persona is exhausting when it’s not naturally who I am. So I didn’t take that advice. Developing two personas would be like splitting myself in two, or hiding a part of myself. Hiding who you are to “fit in” is not normal or healthy. And I don’t believe it’s a choice someone should have to make. Be proud, bold and fearless in who you are as a person. Take pride in yourself 24/7 /365 - no matter what your sexuality, gender, religious beliefs, neurodivergence or personality! Just be you, and come to the workplace as you are. #Authentic #workplace #pride #transcom

“I wish that in the next 20 years, there is no need for a Mardi Gras. Then we truly have reached a point of equality where everyone can just be who they are and their authentic selves, and not have to fear that someone is going to discriminate against them because of who they love.” That was the response from Albert Kruger, the former CEO of Mardi Gras when we asked him what his ultimate hope was for Mardi Gras. As we celebrate and honour Pride Month, it’s an important time to think about the steps your organization is taking (and can take) to be a true ally when it comes to LGBTQIA+ inclusion. Listen as Albert shares: 🚫 His views on the big red flag when it comes to organizations and rainbow washing; and 🏳️🌈 What organizations can do to step up during Pride Month, and beyond.
