With #internship season coming in hot, I wanted to share a few tips and tricks that folks might find helpful as they land their next exciting opportunity: 1. Update your resume to reflect your most recent experiences both on and off campus, and double check for typos and formatting before sending it out. Done some graphic design work for a local business? Add it to your portfolio! Helped a campus organization with a social media campaign? Include it as a bullet on your resume! 2. Stop apologizing. I cannot tell you how many messages I’ve received with a “Sorry for sending!” Line in the intro. LinkedIn is a professional social network, these types of messages are what it’s for :) Do not feel the need to apologize to anyone for being proactive. 3. You may not receive a response to all of your InMail outreach. And that’s ok! Recruiters and hiring managers get hundreds of cold messages just like yours, and sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day to get back to every single one. This does not mean you are not a fit or should not apply. Just that we are very busy! 4. Pay close attention to Career Sites and postings from the official organizations/companies. Any and all information on when applications open and close will be there as organizations solidify their respective timelines. 5. Be intentional about what you are applying to. Submitting a high number of applications does not necessarily increase your chances of being seen. If a company has 100 different internship roles open, chances are that they all differ depending on the needs of that specific business or team. Think about what you’re most keen on or have been studying in your coursework, and apply to only a few roles at each organization that align with your interests and career goals. 6. Last but definitely not least - take a chance on yourself! Internships are about identifying potential, and remember that you can bring something valuable and meaningful to any team by just being you. How I Landed My Internship at If Not For Music! --- Throughout the first few weeks of my very first internship, I feel I've done enough experience with it to start making these posts regularly! Throughout these types of posts, I'll simply post about all I feel is worth sharing about my internship, since I'm sure some of you are dying to know what I do in it. I actually found out about INFM through an email that was sent out by WCU's Communications and Media department. They send out regular emails during job/internship application season (I love them for that!), which really helped me and other people have better access to opportunities and employers in the area. INFM popped up in one of those emails. During my interview with (my current supervisor for my internship), I talked about my passion for music when I was in middle and high school (fun fact: I played violin for 8 years and did color guard for 6 years!), my desire for real-world content creation experience, and how I want other people to achieve their music dreams. I think me being in INFM's target demographic at one point was a big factor in me getting the internship. Something I didn't realize right away (and I should have) is that INFM is a newly founded organization, founded last year. So, they don't have a lot of published projects yet. I'm that someone who will kickstart those projects, and to say the least, working with a young nonprofit is certainly a unique experience! Now that I have the internship, I'm finally building on my content creation skills to the real world, and I'm real excited to see the impact of my projects. My other mentors, Jae Winter and Terri Shadle have been amazing people who have been helping me through all of this, offering feedback and input on our goals for this year. In my three-year tenure at F+L, evolving from Senior People Operations Specialist to Head of Delivery Centre Poland, I've been at the heart of transformative growth and innovation. This path has not only been about professional elevation but also about nurturing an environment of transparency and ambition, pushing us to achieve greater milestones. 👉 What is your passion in life? Outside of work, I'm deeply involved in photography as part of a creative team, building photoshoots from scratch, and exploring narratives through lenses. While I once pursued singing, today I'm an avid music enthusiast, drawing inspiration from soul, funk, neo-soul, hip-hop, and jazz. 👉 What is your favourite/funniest memory from working at F+L? The tapestry of my memories at F+L is rich, however, the company weekend trips stand out as unforgettable bonding experiences with colleagues. A particularly memorable event was an impromptu talent show that showcased our team's diverse abilities, ranging from comedy to extraordinary vocal performances, thereby enhancing our connection. 👉 What is a fun fact about you? As an artist manager, I've navigated the fascinating world of backstage life - where the real magic happens away from the spotlight. 🔥 Managing an event is like facing a fire! 🔥 I recently had the incredible (and chaotic) experience of organizing a festival with bigger and better artists than ever before. We even had rappers with over 500,000 listeners on Spotify! 🎤🎶 But here's where things got wild: 1. 🕵️♂️ Our headliner's manager was in prison! 2. 📞 He insisted on managing the event from his cell. 3. 🤯 He wasn’t exactly open to discussion. 4. 😵💫 My associate lost control and followed his orders to the letter. 5. 🤹♂️ I had to juggle the rapper's demands, ensure event quality, and stay sane. Through this experience, I learned so much about crisis management, flexibility, and staying cool under pressure. Now, I'm looking for a new company to join through a program that offers recent graduates six months of professional experience abroad. It's a win-win: the company benefits from my skills at a lower cost thanks to the program's agreement. I did this interview as a special celebratory edition for Inner Voice Artists’ 100th Global Spotlight Series. In it, I talk about how I successfully started and built the global company. I also talk about the importance of intellectual property ownership and understanding contracts, the rapid and disruptive advancements of technology, the rise of the multi-hyphenate storyteller, and how all the transformations occuring in the film and TV industry are reminiscent of the changes that the music industry underwent years prior with Napster and Spotify. Hopefully my interview can help provide further insight into the ever-evolving media and entertainment landscape, and what creators, attorneys, agents, and executives need to be wary of, and prepared for, heading into a new era of doing business in media. https://lnkd.in/gSgYXyyh
