They told me to consider abortion because my pregnancy was risky and the baby might not survive - they were wrong. When my baby was born, they rushed him into the ICU and put him in a coma. They told me he might not survive - they were wrong. When we planned a surgery when he was 5 years old, they said he might not wake up from it. And when he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 6, they said he might die in his teenage years. That phrase kept playing in my head today as we were celebrating his birthday. He is turning 13, becoming a teenager, so I hope and pray that they were wrong again. Happy birthday Alexandre, my warrior. May you continue to fight for your life and prove them wrong, over and over again. May science continue to advance so all children can live into adulthood. In this world where people complain about getting old, let’s be grateful for living. Let this be your reminder to enjoy life a little bit more. Beautiful!!
Proud of you and this is really inspiring to share your fear story. One thing, I learned from you is "Live in present". Thank you
My twin lads were born 10 weeks premature and the ultrasound ‘specialist’ said Twin B had something on his middle digit to indicate he mostly would not be ‘normal’ and perhaps terminating him so Twin A might have a better chance of survival. It took IVF procedures to obtain this pregnancy and ending it was never a consideration and left it in Gods Hands. They will be turning 24 in August and are thriving young men. No doubt we were the lucky ones but I am forever grateful I went with my beliefs as I could always live with that
Keep fighting young man!
Hoppy Burfday (yes I can spell it’s just how I do it). When worked at a Children’s and young adults hospice. We had Lads with MD who had been told they could come until they past away. This was when they first came when they were in the children hospice and not expecting to get much into their teens. They are now being told unfortunately they can’t come any longer as they are turning 30.
Every parent with a heart should understand that very same thing. The miracle of life and love transcends everything else.
