Q: How has motion capture changed your view on what choreography is? A: For me, it has honed my eye, and given me an opportunity to spend additional time with phrases in the context of motion capture. It’s similar to how a dancer might live with movement in their body. It provides an opportunity to revisit live movements spatially, instead of through a flat YouTube video or even on a proscenium stage. It’s about being able to look at it giant, and then look at it tiny, and from all angles. I adore it. I’ve always wanted people to view dance with the feeling of exhilaration and joy I’ve had as a watcher in the rehearsal studio. Movement, to me, is the most beautiful, direct and instinctual form of human communication. I believe motion capture gets at the essence of who we are in a way that is elegant, accessible and impactful. 🚀 The possibilities of technology revolutionising tourism are certainly intriguing and exciting. While much is rightfully made about the potential of technology to enhance tourist attractions and experiences, It is also fascinating to consider how technology may assume a role in the inclusive development of a destination. 💡 For example, virtual reality (VR) could be used in destination planning with resident groups to envisage changes to improve their locality. Destinations could also leverage VR to gauge residents’ reactions to ideas for destination development in real time and use this feedback to inform destination decision-making and planning. This approach is a potentially interactive and enjoyable way (e.g. during walks in the locality) to gather the voices of marginalised communities in destination development, who may be less inclined to participate in traditional participatory methods, such as otherwise daunting community meetings. 👇 This article outlines how the Orsay Museum in Paris is using VR technology to mark 150 years of Impressionism in its “Paris 1874: Inventing Impressionism” exhibition. Visitors can use VR technology to experience the streets and cafés that inspired the Impressionist movement. 

How deeply can the spaces we choose shape the images we hold of ourselves and each other? This video is of a dance studio, but don't worry, I'm not going to breakout into dance 😅 This post is to invite you to explore the surprising power of our environments to redefine #dialogue and #collaboration. 🩰The next couple of weeks are heavy delivery so we are spending the beginning of this week looking at the venue for each. Each has a unique potential to influence the design and outcome of our upcoming sessions and we like to check out the space before we even think about designing a session. 🩰We are evaluating three of the environments where we're having our sessions: a recreation center, a dance studio (video here), and a meticulously arranged hotel conference room. 🩰I got extra intentional about environment after insights from the "Power of Image Change" course instructed by FacilitrixHelen aka Helen Wythe and Scott Russell from the ICA Associates Inc. It was arguably my favorite insights and so incredibly practical. I realized how much potential there is in a space in shifting image and facilitating change! 🩰Environment is a silent interlocutor in every dialogue. It does more than host conversations; it shapes them. The spatial aspects of the imaginal environment, emphasize that the physical setting can either constrain or enhance the dynamics of interaction. 🩰With intention, we are crafting spaces that not only reflect but actively enhance our communication goals. 🩰For instance, the recreation center, with its open layout and communal vibe, might encourage informal exchanges and foster a sense of community. This setting could potentially alter participants' underlying images of a corporate gathering into something more collaborative and inclusive. On the other hand, the formal ambiance of a hotel conference room might promote structured, goal-oriented discussions, aligning with an image of professionalism and efficiency. Meanwhile, the dance studio offers a playful twist, where creativity 'steps' to the fore—after all, if ideas can dance, why shouldn’t they do it in a place that sparkles with movement and rhythm? 💃🏾 🩰Each environment, with its characteristics and atmospherics, contributes to the mental models—images that participants carry with them, which influence behaviors and interactions profoundly. The influence of spatial dynamics on imaginal environments, our goal is to choose and shape these spaces intentionally. For the first half of 2023, China's performance industry box office revenue increased by 673.49% YOY and the number of visitors increased more than 10x on a yearly basis, according to China Association of Performing Arts. And China's cinema box office year-to-date nears USD 6 billion. While other signs point at an uneven, perhaps shaky, recovery of the post-pandemic Chinese economy, if you look at cinema- and concert-goers, or domestic Experiential Economy in general, the "vibes" are only positive, exuberant even.
