Meet Lois Greco, Vice-Chair of the #CFSJ Board. According to Lois, many philanthropic efforts fail to meet the real-time needs of communities because they provide grant funding at random without forethought and planning. CFSJ first asks the community what it needs, and then they work to find the funds to support that need. That makes all the difference. Learn more about what #philanthropy means to Lois at https://lnkd.in/gMp3U8MJ.

Summer should be a time of discovery and growth, but transportation barriers often stand in the way for many youths in our community. They need a lift to reach literacy camps, theatre programs, sports camps, and math corps camps—vital opportunities for their development. That’s where our M1 Mobility program steps in, and we need your help to make it happen! Here’s how your donations can directly impact the lives of these young people: 🚗 Expand Service Reach: With your help, we can ensure over 2,500 rides this summer, allowing more youths to access essential learning and growth opportunities. 🚗 Support Consistent Access: Reliable transportation ensures that no opportunity is missed due to lack of a ride. 🚗 Build Brighter Futures: Every ride is a step towards acquiring new skills, enhancing education, and forging stronger community ties. Your support means we can drive forward, not just by giving a ride, but by investing in the futures of Pontiac’s youth. Let's help them get where they need to go and grow! 👉 Donate today and fuel their journey to success! https://lnkd.in/ejsJcBx9 Let's drive positive change together! Join us in ensuring that no youth is left behind due to a lack of transportation. #YouthEmpowerment #M1Mobility #DonateToday #PontiacCommunity

Difficult Dialogues National Resource Center I rarely (never) post fundraising notices. Today, I ask you to consider donating to the Difficult Dialogue National Resource Center (DDNRC). Why? First, because I care deeply about and am indebted to Dialogue and to the work of the DDNRC. The evolving practice of Dialogue is integral to my identity -- to who I am and to how I try to live my life; quite simply, it has made me a better person. Second, DDNRC’s charge, to facilitate meaningful approaches to (in)justice and (in)equity, is increasingly crucial across the globe. I believe that many can benefit from honing how we work across difference, particularly in the context of historical conflict. While Dialogue is often linked to student experiences, institutional members at all levels can and should benefit. Dialogue helped me become a better educator; a person more capable of hearing, holding, and reflecting on perspectives different from mine. Dialogue transformed my relationships with students, opening me up to learning tremendously from them, and more importantly, becoming acquainted with the whole person sitting beside me. And, of course, reciprocally, they learned about me. Dialogue inspired trust and transformation. So today I ask that everyone who can, especially folks who experienced Occidental College’s Dialogue, to consider a donation to DDNRC at the following link https://lnkd.in/gSyAX5uq. With great respect and gratitude, J.

In a class offered by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy students gain real-world experience by giving away $10,000 in grant funding. In the hands-on course “Learning by Giving”, students learn and implement the process of making charitable grants and giving wisely, from deciding which community issues to address and writing requests for grant proposals to conducting site visits at nonprofits, evaluating applications, and deciding where to award real money. I am reminded of the saying 'waste is a verb, not a noun.' The environmental and social benefits of this are immeasurable - but they are quantifiable. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle - also requires 'Rethinking' - how can this be used? By whom? Can it be useful in it's current form? Modified? Or recycled into new products. Landfill should be the last resort. #circularity #waste Installnet
WMAR-TV in Baltimore featured our decommission project for MOI, with a great message: Don’t dump, donate. MOI is remodeling its roughly 13,000 square foot showroom and wanted to be sure all the wonderful furniture stayed out of landfill. Some of it went to employees, some of it was sold, and multiple truck loads of desks, chairs, tables, sofas, cabinets and more were donated to eight different nonprofits and community groups. Keeping furniture in circulation helps the environment and the community, allowing everyone to thrive. Together, we’re getting zero done. #circularity MillerKnoll Bridges Baltimore Black Women Build - Baltimore Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland Anne Arundel County Public Schools https://lnkd.in/eqAA6VBT

Grants and funding myth #10 MYTH: 'Evidence' always means academic research Reality: Funders want to see supporting evidence that your initiative is likely to work. Your evidence base may include research studies, data and statistics, and/or community consultation, testimonials and evaluations. Consider what information can best demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of your approach, so the funder can see how it is a good use of their funds.
