We ❤️ the recent Loudoun Now Op-Ed penned by our long-time friend and supporter Karen Schaufeld. "We can [lend extra support] by helping to extend the Loudoun County Public Schools student social, emotional learning and mental health initiatives. "Starting in our elementary and middle schools, LCPS and its partners offer social-emotional learning. "For example, A Place To Be and LEF implement a series of musical performances designed to help younger students learn to be kind and classroom curriculum supports this capability. They also learn how to be respectful to one another." Thanks for the spotlight, Karen! 🙌 Good read on the impact that LEF can have with the help of our partners at 100WomenStrong and A Place to Be! Preparing your children’s emotional and mental backpacks is far more important than getting the right pens and paper. As the return to school is underway across the United States, please take the time to ensure your children know their own talent, rights and power. Do yourself a favor and stop asking about math, science and language. Ask instead: ”Tell me some ways you got to use your talents today?” ”Was there a time this week you felt supported by someone or held back by someone at school?” ”Are there things you’d like to see change about your school?” Follow up with, “Are there ways I can support you to start a movement towards that change?” Caregivers, please please please don’t forget that most schools are set up to wield power and control, not show trust and foster freedom. Like so many systems in our country, you have to actively and internationally equip your children to navigate these environments without losing themselves in the process. #backtoschool #students #caregiver

Social interactions could be teaching a safe social script and then elaborating and teaching them to actively listen to other people and have an interest in others. Make sure your child’s backpack is prepared each night for school the next day, and talk about school and what your child needs support in or feels uncomfortable or has anxiety about. These are ways to connect with your child and help them learn how to pay attention to their emotions and self-regulate when you practice talking about what is upsetting to them and coming up with a plan and role play with social situations or teaching a script to communicate with others. This will expand over time when the skill is built with a trusted adult. — Learn more about your child and how to communicate and connect with them in my demonstration videos! Founder & CEO, Oli help | Empowering parents of kids with diverse minds | Passionate about responsible tech and creating a positive impact
What exactly do you say when your child brings up the 'weird' kid in the class? They might say things like ‘He gets to play with his Pokémon cards the whole day - the teachers just let him’, ‘She just repeats things the whole time and interrupts, it’s so annoying’, ‘If she’s angry, she’ll start biting’... Most of us didn't get specific training as we grew up and schools today still fail to provide explanations to our kids. That's why on World Mental Health Day today, I'm excited to share my first blog post to help parents explain neurodiversity to their kids (and to their grandparents, for that matter!). At Oli help, we're building a tech aid to empower parents of kids with diverse minds. In the meantime however, our resources are intended for all parents who care about creating a more inclusive future for all children. If you want to make a difference, talk to your kids about #diverseminds today and let me know how it goes! #neurodiversity #WorldMentalHealthDay #inclusion #diverseminds #olihelp 🇮🇹 Il post in italiano lo trovate nei commenti, non esitate a parlare di 'stranezza' con i vostri figli!

International Day of Play @ Sakalya Wisdom Early Years Sakalya Wisdom Foundation At Sakalya Wisdom Early Years, we are committed to being change-makers by prioritizing play. We celebrated this International Day of Play with enthusiasm and joy, ensuring our children experience the myriad benefits of play. Playful interactions contribute significantly to the well-being and positive mental health of parents, educators, and children. By embracing a play-based approach, we not only enhance the learning experience for our children but also support their holistic development. Recognizing the importance of play for everyone, we had games for our educators and caretakers too. We believe that these activities foster a sense of community and well-being among all participants, adopting the spirit of the first International Day of Play.
