Back in September, Long Beach hosted its inaugural Grow Long Beach presentation discussing the program aimed at growing businesses in the city. Fast-forward a year and a lot’s happened, including most recently Ford Motor Co. signing a 250,000-square-foot lease in the city to build a research and development center focusing on electric vehicles. The new center, which is slated to open in early 2025, is expected to bring 450 jobs to the city. The company previously had a plant in Long Beach that opened in 1936 but closed 65 years ago.

I'm going to be watching this one closely. In the city of Yarra which encompasses the following suburbs Abbotsford, Alphington, Burnley, Carlton North, Clifton Hill, Collingwood, Cremorne, Fairfield, Fitzroy, Fitzroy North, Princes Hill and Richmond (though they are not strictly called suburbs- suburbs are more like the areas found in the Kath and Kim TV series, the people who dwell in these pats are generally called 'inner city') as a general rule, those who don't depend on public transport own big vehicles. I remember driving my (at that time) substantial sized (to my mind at that time- for a single kiwi lady) Toyota Camry sportivo around those areas feeling tiny in amongst the sea of 4x4s and SUVs dyring rush hour. I think Camry was a decent sized car (heck, it ain't no Yarris) but that begs the question - what is 'big'. I understand owning and operating 4x4s if you're a tradie or tow a fair bit but generally also, I've noticed that many commercial business opting to send their guys out for quotes and small jobs within the inner city in small cars. what I don't understand in Australia is the amount of people who have Suv's and do twice daily 'school bus' runs. I've seen kids expecting mum or dad to drop them off everyday rather than catch the bus, train or tram and boy, they throw the wobblies when they don't get their own way (though, I have spoken to some well mannered and beautiful kids on the trains - mostly private school kids who were so well grounded they are the types who will most likely go into to some kind of leadership role in their careers later on in life) the private school bus run done by many parents in Melbourne I will never understand. Getting back to the argument, not sure how you can define a car as 'big' and tax it.. how heavy- yes bit that could have interesting results meaning those battery things are "heavy' due to battery weight so even though they are small could attract an extra tax. Some utes of the NZ class 2 size being charged, yes, I totally get that. Will be interesting to see where this goes...

The closure of Cavallin Ford in Pine City reflects broader trends in the automotive industry, where traditional car dealerships are facing increasing challenges. Factors like the rise of online car sales, direct-to-consumer models, and shifting consumer preferences towards digital experiences have contributed to the decline of brick-and-mortar dealerships. The pattern of closures is not unique to Pine City but is part of a larger trend seen nationwide. As a car guy, I'll miss the familiar sight of Cavallin Ford in Pine City. It's been a hub of automotive passion and community connection my whole life. Wishing brothers Dick, Tom, and Ron Cavallin the best in their future endeavors! In the midst of these changes, Pine City's transition to welcoming a Kwik Trip, Inc. will bring vibrant energy to the southern freeway interchange area. Typically, a Kwik Trip location can create anywhere from 20 to 50 or more jobs, including positions in retail, food service, management, and maintenance. Additionally, the construction phase of the store may also generate temporary employment opportunities. The revitalization of the county seat in Minnesota's fastest-growing county is exciting, presenting us with new prospects to embrace. Let us welcome these opportunities with open arms, ensuring a vibrant and prosperous future for generations to come. #PineCity #CarDealerships #AutoTrends #ChangingLandscape #Opportunities https://lnkd.in/gUK5jfFy

📢 📢 Tomorrow the New York City Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing about proposed rule changes that significantly impact all cargo #ebike operations, including ours. As a #newyorkcity based e-bike startup led by two native New Yorkers, and The Bronx High School of Science grads, The Hub Bicycles is 💯 committed to the future of this city. We are investing a lot to bring innovative, sustainable, and equitable cargo e-bike solutions to the last mile delivery industry. The city is our home, and we want to see it thrive 🗽 🚀 🚀 We have a clear vision of how to rapidly scale cargo e-bikes for last mile delivery across NYC. We know that many in DOT and in the last mile delivery industry share a similar vision. But, these proposed regulations will create conditions that make it all but impossible for our collective vision to become reality. We strongly urge DOT to act quickly and address the 5️⃣ key points outlined in our CEO's Steven Balinsky's public testimony (see below 👇).
