Founder and Chairman of BeyondNetZero

Today, I am delighted to announce my appointment as Chairman of Carbonplace    I’ll be joining Scott Eaton and his excellent team in London as they open the carbon markets to the world.   For the future of humanity, everything we do must be orientated towards achieving #NetZero and the #CarbonMarkets are one of the many tools at our disposal.    Carbonplace is paving the way as the global #CarbonCredit transaction and distribution network developed by nine of the world’s leading banks to fundamentally transform how carbon credits are bought, sold, held and retired.    As Chairman, I look forward to supporting Carbonplace in its journey to deliver the trust, transparency and accessibility needed for the carbon markets to unlock investment in net zero, at scale.     Read more: https://lnkd.in/eE7G759R

A question .. how does ‘trading’ contribute to net zero? Surely by providing a market it just encourages more carbon production?

Congratulations John Browne. I'm sure that I speak for many #bp pensioners when I say I wish that #bp still had you as CEO. The current leadership has been sadly lacking of late, as is the trust and transparency that you mention. Here and now may not be the place and time to ask you your views on the Pensions Scandal, but I do hope that you may be sharing a few words of advice and experience behind the scenes. Thank you for listening. #BPpensions #ageism

John Browne and Scott Eaton. Your key to unlocking this vision is for carbon credits to be capitalised and revalued as intangible assets. Though accountants will tell you that this can’t be done, and that carbon credits must be written off as costs, actually IAS38 is pretty solid ground to start with. Almost the last people to listen to on whether carbon credits can be accounted for as assets is a profession that still believes its 1985. The global accounting standard for recognition and revaluation can be in place by Q3 2024 all being well—it would be a good discussion. For more, keep an eye on Rethinking Capital’s second submission to the Interpretations Committee of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) on recognition of a net zero commitment as a liability. And the conditions under which carbon credits can be recognised as assets. I’d suggest that Carbonplace supports the public consultation after the submission is discussed on 5/6th March. Happy to discuss. Caroline Haas

Congratulations John Browne on your new position and endeavor to lead the Carbon Credit marketplace. I see a good symbiotic synergy between our 2 companies as we produce Carbon Credits as a result of manufacturing "BioChar, The New Black Gold". Every ton of BioChar creates 3 tons of Carbon Credits. If you are intrested in exploring how we can cooperate and collaborate together, feel free to DM me. But before you do so I strongly suggest you visit our Tree of Life Biotechnology, LLC website below www.tol-biotech.com

Well, much as I admire John and always did I'm not a fan of making announcements on LinkedIn that invite Comments and then failing to address any of the feedback. The issue of carbon-neutral is one such issue. Another is the current journey of BP. A third is the ongoing pension scandal. We really should hear from you John about all these BP matters as BP was and is your core constituency and many of us remember your leadership as inspirational.

I'm afraid I'm not convinced that "nett zero" is the way forward. Because unless we tackle the rapidly growing over-population of humans on the planet THE PLANET WILL DIE whatever is done about carbon, fossil fuel usage, etc, etc!
