Albertsons Companies and Safeway recently embarked on an innovative partnership with YouTube sensation, MrBeast, and industry allies PepsiCo, Campbell's, DUDE Wipes, Red Baron, Country Crock, and Vita Coco. The exciting collaboration involves a contestant who must survive in a grocery store alone to win $10,000 per day, but there’s a catch. He must choose $10,000 worth of products to donate to local charities each day as well.
This culminated in MrBeast’s latest YouTube release, "Stranded in a Grocery Store," which resulted in a donation of over $450,000 in groceries to communities in need.
To complete MrBeast's latest idea and make sure it was a real experience for the contestant, Albertsons Companies and our Safeway team worked with MrBeast's team on the cash registers, aisles, signage, placement, and merchandising to make sure every aspect of the store was a true functional grocery store—including seasonal areas and specialty sections found only in and around special occasions... all within just 15 days.
Through our Recipe for Change initiative, we also partnered with Copia, a technology company that connects food donations to local not-for-profits in need, to identify and manage donation opportunities from the store to local nonprofit organizations.
We are grateful to our brand sponsors who donated monetary gifts and helped stock the store for this exciting challenge. The collaboration is a testament to what can be achieved when industry leaders unite for a common humanitarian goal, setting a new precedent for future philanthropic endeavors.
