A Great Product ≠ A Successful Business
It's the hustle, the grit, & the perseverance that turn a product into a successful enterprise. It's understanding the market, outthinking competition, making do with less, and being comfortable with P&Ls & Balance Sheets.
I’ve seen this in Delhi and Mumbai where ‘Dhandha’ or ‘Commercial Acumen’ is far more prevalent.
My observation is that folks in Bangalore tend to be great product & UI/UX builders but are not as strong when it comes to "Business" compared to their northern brethren.
I know this is a generalisation and I have no real data to back my observations, lekin sach toh hai 😜
Do you agree? If so, why do you think this is so?
By the way, RCB needs a better bowling attack as well 🫣

A Great Product ≠ A Successful Business
While a good product is a crucial component of a successful business, it's not the sole determinant.
A good product can provide a strong foundation, but factors like effective marketing, sound business strategy, customer service, and market conditions also play significant roles in determining the success of a business.
Ultimately, a combination of these elements contributes to building a sustainable and thriving business.
Agree??

Very well said, Anupam.
I have come across many people who quit their well-paying jobs, built an excellent product, had a demand as well, but still could not succeed, probably because one thing was missing - ki Dhandha kaise banaate hain.
If you observed, there were many pitches from Gujarat this time in Shark Tank India, and I could not remember a single one that was not making money.
Aise aise ideas jiske baare mein no one can imagine, they built a great Dhandha out of it.
For example Raja Rani Coaching, a single trainer, 70,000+ students, 6 Crore ARR, and a profit margin of 45%. Can you believe it?

Completely disagree. Business success heavily depends on founder's vision and business acumen to build disruptive solutions. If the product is not 10x better than the existing solution, it's incompetence of founder/team. If u copy paste business models of others, your product is guaranteed to not be 10x better than them.
Added in comments below: I'm not countering the need for marketing, but only marketing without any disruptive product will be just another competitor in the market. Your definition of a successful product is probably different from mine. Acc to you, Uninor would have been considered a successful company back in it's days, and I will disagree with you. According to me, when Jio was launched, it was the only successful product, bcos it made the competitors irrelevant and butchered the entire segment. Does it mean Jio didn't do any marketing? Absolutely not. But based on marketing alone, it would not have been so successful. Another example is Tesla, whose marketing budget used to be zero, until recently. They got complacent with product development and suddenly need marketing, as competitors caught up. Elon Musk had laughed at BYD, when asked if he considered them as a viable competitor. I am not nearly 1% as talented as he is, but history has shown he lacked the foresight and overestimated his competitive advantage.
