A Board of Directors Moment...Check This Out... At our last Board meeting, we had Sean Duffy, our Chief Claims Officer host a breakfast education session with our Board on Claims. Sean took the bold step of inviting two of our Data Scientists to present (including the youngest member of the team - a recent grad from NYU who was in our 2022 intern class and recently joined us full time). A short while back, Sean gave the team a simple challenge: given the limited managerial resources to deep dive files, how do we prioritize their time to maximize financial impact (i.e. focus on claims with greatest development potential)? The team started by sourcing the top 3 solutions in the market (2 insurtech solutions and one from a leading actuarial organization). Then the Skyward Specialty Insurance team went to work, and in a few short weeks developed a predictive model (raw text from claim notes ->lemmatize -> tokenize -> hit it with an XGBoost Ensemble model -> train -> fine tune) and boom - a model with far higher fidelity (identified <20% of claims in any cohort that drive over 50% of full developed case reserve changes of that cohort). This version 1 was put into operation with visualization elements that allow managers to quickly view chronological reserve, injury and treatment changes...and that's just ver 1! It was a bit of a drop the Mic moment for the team and brought our Board to the front line of why we are different! #goingskyward #specialtyinsurance #datascience

#lifeatMNP is anything but cookie-cutter! Let's chat about how your future starts at MNP! #ItStartsHere
Thanks to our #Saskatoon team members Jonathan Neigum, CPA, Romina Oquendo, CPA, Byron Bitz, and Andrea Stranden, CPA who took time to tell their stories of what their #LifeatMNP is all about, and how their careers progressed in different ways. Each story is unique, and providing that chance to customize the experience and seeing our team members grow and thrive in their own way is part of what makes being a Regional Managing Partner at MNP so rewarding. We appreciate everything all our team members contribute to our firm each and every day. #ItStartsHere

Big lessons learnt with this cycle too
One of our new first-year analysts asked me about a mistake that served as a good learning opportunity. There are plenty to choose from. Learning from these mistakes has been critical to make us better investors.
