Roles of a development (product based) merchandiser: 1. Collecting tech pack from customer. 2. Reviewing the tech pack and get back to customer if there is any clarification required or any challenged faced with. 3. Checking production feasibility (with factory IE dept. if required). 4. Asking customer of their sample requirement deadline/due date. 5. To place development sample fabric order to a well-qualified & predefined fabric mill focusing on placing the bulk order if the order is confirmed. 6. To place required sample trims order to well-selected suppliers. 7. Taking confirmation on delivery date from fabric and trims supplier and checking if those dates meet the customer deadline. If sample due date isn't matched, need to go back to customer with the challenge faced. 8. Making sure right quality of fabric and trims are in-housed on time to start the sample making 9. Need to ensure fabric /trims are in-housed with correct quality. 10. Fabric quality, content and GSM is remained aligned with customer requirement. 11. Organizing product analyzing/screening/ risk analysis meeting with the participation of IE, technician and other concerned. 12. Having a well -connected co-ordination with sample room coordinator via email /call /whatsapp/ general text. 13. Taking a sample submission T&A from the sample room based on customer deadline. 14. Having proper follow-up on this T&A to meet customer deadline. 15. Properly checking the sample quality /tag details –to ensure that correct sample is dispatched with correct information. 16. Letting customer know the sample dispatch details sharing AWB. 17. Having on time follow-up with customer for product comments.

Time & Action Plan - Textile manufacturing The Time & Action Plan popularly known as a T&A plan - It is the first step in planning the order to meet the required ETD . As soon as a new order is placed, a Merchandiser prepares the T&A chart which outlines the lead time of the order and serves as a reporting chart to the buyers and the manufacturer. It is the chart which compares the original planning to that of the actual progress. A clear T&A 1. Indicates the order flow- step by step process in making a garment right from sourcing the raw materials. 2. Shows the Timeline of each internal process - This timeline should be realistic and to be calculated only with the actual working days. 3. Alerts the critical processes : Analysing a T&A shows the critical processes where extra efforts are needed and also helps to prioritise the most important tasks. Example- When a style is more detailed and is more time consuming in production ie. three weeks instead of ten days, the focus here is to feed the sewing lines as early as possible so the production is completed on time. 4. As we track the progress against our planned dates at every stage, any Red Flags are highlighted and resolved to make the process flow smoother 5. With a T&A update every week, the buyer is able to analyse the progress of the order placed with a manufacturer. 6.Motivates the team and improves the overall performance and results. Most Important tip : A T&A is a great tool only when it serves it purpose. It is not just to update on Mondays for the internal meetings and buyers' weekly communications.
