According to new research from the Unite America Institute, Alaska may provide some state-based solutions to this nationwide problem. The Alaska Model examines the impact of the state’s historic top-four nonpartisan primary on state politics and governance. Used for the first time in 2022, the new system gave Alaskans the most "meaningful votes" in the nation. The share of Alaskans casting meaningful votes increased by nearly 60% over 2020 to 35%, which is about three times the national average. https://loom.ly/wgKi66E #thefulcrum #alaskamodel #governing

As we approach #WorldWaterDay, it’s important to pause for a moment and recognize how water connects us all. Yet, not enough clean and safe water is reaching many in the war stricken Middle East, a situation that is not spoken of enough. This source of life has become a symbol of struggle for so many, where the daily battle for access to clean water (even before the war began) serves as a vivid reminder of the larger issues at play. The Pacific Institute #WaterConflictChronology provides insight into how disputes over water resources can lead to tensions and, conversely, how wise water management can contribute to peace. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Peter Gleick Morgan Shimabuku Christine Curtis, Ph.D. Giuliana Chaves Moreira Amanda Bielawski, PhD, MBA Tiffany Khoury Robert Jensen and others on the team on comms & outreach for a recent update to the Chronology. This work contributes to a broader understanding and action towards using water as a tool for peace. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gW9zEZ5D #WaterForPeace

🌐 New Resource Alert: FEMA’s Guide for Equitable Post-Disaster Recovery 🌐 It is a foundational tenet that all disasters and initial disaster response are local. As disasters scale and draw on the ever-expanding support and resource infrastructure defined by the National Response Framework, the responsibility for equity also scales. To that end, all levels of disaster response and recovery have an important role in ensuring equity. FEMA’s recent publication of the Guide for Equitable Post-Disaster Recovery is designed to support State and Local government agencies in continuing to weave equity into the fabric of their plans, projects, responses, and recovery efforts. Notably, FEMA’s guide is one more step toward building equity prior to disasters happening by building in resilience through the recovery phase. 🔍 Why This Matters: Accessibility in Action: The guide provides concrete steps to ensure recovery plans reach and include diverse populations, focusing on the needs of underserved communities. Inclusive Decision-Making: Offers a framework for ensuring that resource distribution during recovery is equitable, empowering all community voices. Fairness First: Strategies to maintain impartiality in recovery efforts are outlined, emphasizing fairness for every segment of the community. As crisis management experts, we recognize the guide’s practicality and depth. It’s an essential tool for disaster recovery planning—promoting stronger, more inclusive community rebuilding. 📢 Explore how these principles can enhance your recovery strategies. #DisasterRecovery #CommunityLeadership #InclusiveRecovery https://lnkd.in/gYWVpzNp
