We compiled a list of 25 startups innovating in sports, from companies developing AI for pro teams to fledgling leagues to hormone testing that could help female athletes. Yay! We've hit our 100% funding goal on #Kickstarter! 🎉 Here's a #data story from this adventure, diving into the analytics behind our success: 1. Choosing the Right Data Set ("right" sample size matters the most): It's not just about the most obvious metrics like pledge numbers and funding amounts. We looked for data with sufficient variance (at least 2 standard deviation to the both direction) to truly gauge both positive and negative impacts of our business decisions (for this case, effectiveness of marketing assets). For us, video plays on our page proved to be the one. This metric helped us understand the second step of our audience's conversion journey, offering a richer dataset than final conversion rates. Simply put, the sample size of the final conversion metrics wasn't big enough! 2. Timely Decision-Making: With Kickstarter's 60-day window, there's little room to wait on platform algorithms to identify new audiences after implementation of new assets. We focused on immediate impacts on our known user profile, ready to pivot if we didn't see results within 3-5 days. This approach ensures agility in our strategy. 3. Experimentation is Key: Abandoning marketing assets quickly might seem wasteful and painful (especially after a long time of investing time and resources into new asset creation), but it's essential for rapid learning. Our journey taught us that our initial assets were the most effective, a valuable lesson that will inform our future campaigns. This journey has been definitely fun and exciting, and it's far from over (8 days left!!) Over the last couple of days, I thoroughly thought about how to write this post. I had drafts full of romantic phrases, strong and catchy statements, or lovely metaphors. Finally, I decided to cut it short: I founded my own company! VALUE - a market intelligence platform for sports tech in soccer. Why do we do it? Because professional soccer and sports tech are not working together as they should do, and I want to change it. How do we do it? By bringing together sports tech companies and professional soccer in a better way for both parties. What do we do? We provide a central platform which gives an easy to understand overview about the sports tech market in soccer. Over the past weeks, we've developed a MVP and onboarded our first Club Family Partners consisting of carefully chosen soccer clubs in Europe, helping us to sharpen the product and to identify how it can bring even more value than it does right now already.
