Your weight is not a measure of your worth. Yep, I said that on LinkedIn. The business platform. But why???? You are worthy. Exactly as you are. EXACTLY as you are. What you decide to do (or NOT do) about your own personal health is no one else's business. The weight/diet culture is affecting us AT WORK. Did you catch the Oprah Winfrey special last week? If you didn't, you should. It was 3 hours long. But it was worth every minute. If you are resistant to watching it because you are not an Oprah fan, or because you don't like Weight Watchers, or because you are not impacted by the weight/diet culture, or because you don't think it will be worth your time, or because you found out Oprah took a weight loss drug, WATCH IT ANYWAY. Especially if any of these statements affect you or someone you love... ⚖ The scale is a measure of your worth 🍕 You are waiting to lose weight to do ___________ (anything) 📸 You miss out on important activities because of your weight 🎇 Your work is affected because you won't ____________ (ask for a raise, go for that promotion, get on that stage, step outside your comfort zone, etc.) because of your weight All of those things have been true for me. Some of them still are. It is an exhausting battle that many of us wrestle with every day. And something needs to change. If you watch it, I am sure you will find at least one (or maybe even 10) thing(s) that you don't agree with, or that will piss you off, or that will irritate you. Skip past those things. Find the takeaways that matter to YOU. It is time to change the narrative. And that only happens if we all recognize that the narrative has to change. https://lnkd.in/eqpdjYwf

Yes I am watching the David Beckham documentary! Rambling post alert! With it being #WorldMentalHealthDay this week a couple of things jumped out, particularly how Beckham was treated after the World Cup, becoming a public hate figure. I do remember it, but don't remember it being as bad as it clearly was, which is probably a sign of what was deemed acceptable at that time. Also, the different approach of the managers. The England manager was quick (in the documentary anyway) to point a finger of blame at a young team member. Whereas Alex Ferguson is shown more as a father figure - documentary shows the office door open and him singing away, with the approach "don't worry about this son", the team here will have your back against everyone else. It does come round to fostering the right approach within your team. As I mentioned before, the traditional law firm model of individually people trying to climb the ladder, hasn't always created the best team culture for people sticking up for one and another, and helping each other out when required (see Roy Keane below). I do think it is important these behaviours are recognised and rewarded. An inclusive and collaborative approach within a team to each other, creates a culture where people want to remain and one which people want to be a part of as well. At FWA, Frasia Wright works hard to ensure she completes monthly reviews with every team member. More a check in to find out how everyone is getting on in their role and just generally. It takes a chunk of time but everyone appreciates it and enables them to feel a part of the team and business, and the valued member they are. I do recommend it if you are considering how to best have team contact/check ins. Finally, if you think someone in your team is struggling, check in on them. You never know what a difference it can make to know you are all in the same team and pushing in the same direction. Also, yes I haven't seen episode two yest which presumably covers the boot throwing incident. Watch out for next week's post called don't throw things at people. He said “he wanted to make sure our house was made of bricks today” ....because we knew the big bad wolf of Melbourne was going to be huffing and puffing at our door. “We went to work on -not what Melbourne were going to do - it was about how we protect our house, keep it in order.” He also said in this press conference “you have method and you have system and you hope talent takes you above those things.” So are you more focused on all the external challenges – many of which are out of your control - instead of protecting your small business house and keeping it in order which is all within your control?
