Co working spaces are evolving! I’ve tried a lot of them but always found the same experience. Coffee and snacks are great but there was no collaboration, networking, or fun conversations. Saw this today from Chris Williamson and it struck a chord. Over the last few months I have had several conversations with sales leaders regarding incentive structures & KPIs - why they do or do not work, what they might look like if relevant and how to implement. This reminds me of Flight Centre Travel Group's philosophy regarding incentives: "What get's rewarded, gets done". Sales leaders need to ensure that incentives are clearly aligned with behaviour and outcomes, otherwise it becomes a minefield that can break a business.

May 2024 be a great year giving you everything you work towards :) We were privileged to be on Sydney Harbour watching the fireworks right opposite the Sydney Opera House - courtesy of a good friend who has a yacht :) Fulfilled one of Barbara's dreams :) Quite spectacular! So on to this year's mantra. Do a job, get a job! It’s a great mantra shared by a colleague, Lauren Jones. Put simply, every time you deliver a piece of work for a client think about what else you could do for them. If there’s nothing obvious, could they refer you on? And the converse is true. Could you refer someone to them? When working with clients who have delivery teams we stress the importance of just keeping your eyes open. Having conversations. Putting 2 and 2 together to see if there are opportunities. There are often far more than you think. You just need keep your eyes and ears open and when you spot something, mention it. Ask the question. Is this something that’s important to fix. And if so, make a recommendation. Realise that it takes 7 to 10 times more money, time and effort to get a new client than to keep selling to them. Ongoing sales is where the real profit is. 'm at one of those destination locations so out of the way to get to, you know, ski lodge. I'm sitting there thinking, how do they make their cash because I'm on vacation and thinking about business. I know how they make their cash, annual ski memberships. I don't have an annual this year but I'm here and I'm enjoying it right now. It's lovely. What would be a better time to sell a season pass than when you've got a captured audience when you sit down at a restaurant? It struck me, airlines will have flight attendants sell credit card transactions and yet ski slopes never ever once hit up the people when they're at the peak of their excitement to do the most profitable thing which is just sign up for their annual ski pass. Missed opportunities everywhere. Love this place. Interesting update. I went to look at the booth. That's where they have salespeople to sell tickets. I was just kind of curious since they weren’t selling them at the restaurant. So I went over there and I said, “Hey, I'm really enjoying my time today. I think I'm gonna hit this up tomorrow”. She goes, “Oh, no, we can't sell you tomorrow's ticket. You have to go online.” So it went from a missed opportunity to an anti sales department.
