🚨 Some professional news 🚨. I told my team at the International Institute for Strategic Studies recently that I will be leaving the Institute later this month. I’ll say a bit more about my own plans in due course, but a big of part of this is wanting to have a crack at writing another book — something that is a little tricky to pull off when you are running a busy office and responsible for pulling together a major international security summit each year. I wanted to say thanks in particular to Bastian Giegerich, our new Director General and Chief Executive, for his support and understanding over my decision. A further and even bigger thanks goes to our terrific team here in Singapore. It has been an honour to lead IISS-Asia over recent years. I first discussed taking over with my predecessor Tim Huxley back in 2020. I joined IISS in the midst of the turmoil of COVID. Since then we have run two excellent Shangri-La Dialogues and two SLD Sherpa meetings; launched our new high-profile IISS Raffles Lectures series; and run a range of other excellent international events here in Singapore and elsewhere. We’ve also brought in a host of new talent to our team, and cranked out a range of useful research on topics ranging from cyber security to Myanmar. I'm really proud of what we've done. At a time of rising geopolitical upheaval the work done by research groups like the IISS has rarely been more important. It goes without saying, I'll continue to be a big fan of its work from outside too. I’ve learned a great deal working at the Institute, both here in Asia and from our wider organisation in our other four global offices. Thanks again to all of you who made it such a great place to be, and to those of you in Singapore and elsewhere who have done so much to support our work. Onwards 👍
