Is the RV challenger Pebble ready to take on the American icon Airstream? My kids and I went to Electrify Expo to find out firsthand! I had the opportunity to sit down with Stefan Solyom (CTO) and Ivan Wang (Head of Brand) to dive deep into what makes this vehicle stand out. The Pebble RV is not only beautifully and intentionally designed, but it's also packed with useful tech features that make it easy to just jump in and go (something I tried in my #EVRVRoadtrip with the iconic Airstream and F150 earlier this year). Three things most stood out: 1. "North Star Design": Every element is designed to making it easier to put it on the road and take trips. 2. "Vehicle as a Platform": Software-defined enhancements to keep improving the vehicle over time, even after you buy it. 3. "Wow Factor": like glass that instantly changes from cloudy to clear 😍 I'm very interested in its electric drivetrain, increasing the gas milage of the tow vehicle or substantially increasing its range if it's an EV. Because of the wide variety of possible trajectories for #hypersonic gliders, finding the right way to visualise the relevant information from my #simulations can be a challenge. This is one attempt, which I think ended up looking quite pretty. So what is it? The background colour indicates the maximum lateral acceleration a particular glide vehicle can generate as a function of the altitude and the Mach number. This primarily depends on the dynamic pressure, which increases with decreasing altitude and with the velocity squared. However, it also depends on the aerodynamic configuration of the RV; specifically on the maximum trim angle of attack and the associated lift coefficient, which also are a function of the Mach number and altitude. All of these variables change during the glider’s flight, so an individual trajectory can be represented by a trace on this plot. The white traces are individual skipping trajectories from a scenario. They start at the top right-hand corner, with a descent from 55 km at close to Ma=10, followed by a pitch-up manoeuvre that starts around 25 km. Near the peaks of the skips, the altitude becomes large, and the RV cannot manoeuvre. Because the speed decreases after multiple skips, the maximum acceleration also decreases. Finally, in the lowest part of the trajectories, below 20 km, the velocity decreases rapidly. While most of the impacts are supersonic, none are above Ma=2.5.
