Intel Corporation has promoted U.S. channel chief Jason Kimrey to an expanded role that puts him in charge of the chipmaker’s North American sales efforts with channel partners, Fortune 500 companies and communications service providers. Kimrey told me in an interview that the move was done to ensure that previously disparate teams for partners, enterprise customers and comms service providers “operate as one Intel” and “bring the best of what Intel has to offer to the entire commercial market in a single voice.” "If it works, [partners] should see that they're winning more business with Intel, that Intel as a percentage of their business will grow because we're effectively not just getting to market with great programs, we're pulling it through on the go-to-market side with our customers," he said. Luck is the single biggest factor in your career. And we see examples of this everyday... Let's pretend two sales reps, both "A" players, and looking for a job in 2019. Rep #1 joined CrowdStrike. Rep #2 joined NVIDIA. Both were high growth tech companies, with great comp packages. Fast forward to this week... Rep #2 is worth >$5,000,000 and rep #1 will get ghosted by every deal in their pipeline. But blaming success on pure luck is for the lazy. A study of 70 top sales reps found that each rep attributed over two-thirds of their sales to luck. Which isn't a conicenedance. Reps who believe in luck tend to work harder and "get luckier". When I started in my first tech sales role, all I wanted to do was get to a management position. I didn’t know that there was another route that you could take to be a great individual contributor. But what I did learn was one simple thing. All progression started with getting really good at smashing my own target and delivering. If you start there then progression will follow.
