Link Robertson’s Post

As Christmas approaches, and 2023 draws to a close, I think about how fortunate I have been to know so many great people during my career in technology. Mike Thompson (who I met in college when we both worked at the Marriott) helped me land my first job in tech sales at Micro Center. We had a blast and I made some great friends like Brad Cavanaugh and Brian Randall and many others. We wore suits to work! Opening the Houston and Boston stores was a great experience. That role led to a job with Power Computing where I sold Macintosh clones and started to appreciate and understand the opportunities in sales. Power Tower Pro + 17” Trinitron for $4999! Man, we had fun, didn’t we Mike Malone, Pat Krapfl and John Kinny? Joel Culpepper (who I met at Power Computing) recruited me to Dell when Power closed, and we sold the heck out of those refurbished Optiplex machines, didn’t we Jerry Salgado! Made some great friends like Julie Conner, Jerry, and John Lilley who were some of the best sales reps I’ve ever known. After a hiatus from tech, and living abroad for two years, I returned to tech sales with a referral to Apple from my friend Brad who I met at Microcenter! That was a great job with great people like Kevin Lamb, James Garringer, Andre Downer, Anne Vise, Tina Dye, Diana Sudduth, Scott Dickson, and SO many others. I actually worked as an Apple contractor years before, and Tina was my manager! After Apple, Scott referred me to VMware where I worked for five years. I was fortunate to have Dimitri Koutsos as my first manager and Jared Byrd as my field rep and VMware software mentor. We hauled water and broke rocks! Man, we had great people! Norman A. Watkins Jr., Scott Hacker, Heather Holtz, Saje Thomas, Joshua Currer, Kristin Astourian, Alberto D. Aréchiga, Keegan Linza, Rick Eilenberger, Scotty D. and many others! Alex Mercer took a chance and gave me my first field sales role and it was off to Scottsdale for two years. That was a life-changing opportunity, for which I will be forever grateful. During my time at VMware I worked with Gene Manako occasionally on EUC deals, and he eventually referred me to his team at NVIDIA where I work today. I could list a LOT of NVIDIA colleagues, but don’t want to leave anyone out. What a phenomenal company with impressive people! Life changing role 2.0! I guess you could say that driving the Marriott airport shuttle during college has led to every role I’ve had since. What a great ride it’s been! Merry Christmas, y’all!

You ARE a fantastical story teller, little brother (I doubt I could remember all of those people’s names 🤣)! We have both been blessed with fantastic opportunities beyond our wildest expectations. It is always wonderful to reflect on those who have journeyed with us. Keep being you, little brother! ❤️
