Every single vote counts. Thank you for taking time to influence the future of American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) and the #HealthcareFacilities industry 🙏💙💚
When you focus on someone else, empowerment is automatically the byproduct.
Empowerment isn't just a buzzword—it's a transformative approach that begins the moment you shift your focus from yourself to another person. When we prioritize the needs, growth, and well-being of others, we ignite a powerful chain reaction that leads to increased motivation, engagement, and performance. This is at the heart of servant leadership and situational leadership.
🔑 Servant Leadership revolves around serving others first. Leaders can create a culture where team members feel valued and empowered to take initiative by listening actively, showing empathy, and fostering a supportive environment. It's about leading by example and nurturing others to reach their full potential.
🛠️ Situational Leadership requires adapting your style to meet the needs of your team members based on their skills, experience, and confidence. By providing the right direction and support, you can help individuals grow and develop, empowering them to take on new challenges confidently.
In practice, these leadership styles mean putting others first and recognizing empowerment as a continuous process. It starts with simple actions: acknowledging achievements, offering constructive feedback, and creating growth opportunities.
When leaders focus on the development and success of their team members, they build a foundation of trust and mutual respect. This not only enhances individual performance but also drives the organization's collective success.
I challenge you to commit to a leadership style that prioritizes empowerment, recognizes each team member's strengths, and adapts to support their growth. Together, we can create thriving, motivated, and resilient teams.
How do you incorporate empowerment, servant leadership, or situational leadership into your daily practices? I'd love to hear your experiences and insights! 🌟

Legacy FM is on the move! 💪 💙 💥
In the past week, we've facilitated several impactful training sessions for HonorHealth, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit Health healthcare engineering professionals.
We kicked off our roadshow in Scottsdale with #HonorHealth, focusing on presentation and communication skills for their facilities leadership team. Over two days, we conducted practice presentations, provided immediate peer feedback, and discussed preferred communication methods and protocols for various situations. Additionally, we honed email-writing ✍️ and meeting management skills 📝.
Next, we headed to Charlotte for #HVAC training sessions at #Novant Health. Our two-day program covered the unique HVAC systems in healthcare, combining classroom learning with hands-on practice to diagnose and troubleshoot issues effectively 🛠️.
Today, we wrapped up with #CommonSpirit and #NovantHealth. This morning, we facilitated a virtual instructor-led training for Novant's Facilities and Construction Services leadership program, aimed at empowering emerging leaders 🌟. This session focused on goal-setting 🎯 and performance improvement plans, including #SMARTgoals, feedback techniques, and disciplinary actions for various scenarios.
This afternoon, our subject matter expert, Joshua Brackett PE, CHFM, delivered a webinar titled "From Code to Care," teaching healthcare facilities professionals how to leverage codes and risk assessments to achieve more with less 📉.
We are thrilled to partner with these organizations, empowering their facilities management teams through education 🎓. 🚀

I am closing the loop on my recent post highlighting the need for fairness and transparency within the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) Fellow and Senior Programs and beyond.
The American Hospital Association (#AHA) and #ASHE have responded to our call to action by conducting an internal audit of the Fellow (#FASHE) and Senior (#SASHE) program. This is a significant step towards addressing the concerns raised and ensuring a more equitable process for all members.
I want to sincerely thank the ASHE and AHA staff for responding to this issue with urgency and importance. Their commitment to addressing our concerns shows a true dedication to the values we all uphold.
Additionally, I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support I received both publicly and privately. Your encouragement has been invaluable and humbling as we work together towards a better future for ASHE members.

🚀 Seeking Recommendations for Virtual and In-Person Team-Building Activities! 🚀
A conversation with a friend over lunch recently sparked an insightful idea. He shared that during his ideal interview, he would have candidates participate in an escape room activity while observing them via a spy cam. It's fascinating to see how much you can learn about people in that setting—not their ability to solve puzzles, but how they work with others, communicate ideas, and approach problem-solving. 💡
Inspired by this, I've been looking to incorporate more engaging activities with my all-virtual team. We recently played a game of Scattagories, which was educational, competitive, and a lot of fun. 🎉
As I facilitate more leadership programs, I'm also eager for fresh ideas for in-person engagement. So, I'm turning to my amazing LinkedIn network for suggestions.
What virtual or in-person team-building activities have you found to be particularly effective? Whether it's something you've experienced, heard about, or even dreamed up, I'd love to hear your thoughts! 🤔💬
I look forward to your recommendations and am excited to try some new activities with my Empowerment Squad! 🌟

Today, I was privileged to facilitate two remarkable leadership training sessions—Team Member Engagement and Team Member Management—alongside the exceptional Plant Engineering instructors from Novant Health. These classes are integral components of Novant Health's larger Facilities and Construction Services leadership program, which aims to empower emerging leaders with the skills and knowledge to lead and engage their teams effectively.
Team Member Engagement and Management are not just buzzwords but instrumental to a thriving organizational culture. Engaged team members are more productive, satisfied, and committed to their work, directly impacting the overall performance and success of our facilities and construction projects.
In the Team Member Engagement class, we explored what motivates people and how to foster a work environment that brings out their best. The Team Member Management class focused on the practical skills required to determine staffing levels and schedule team members for optimum productivity. We ended the class with speed interview rounds. Fun!
By prioritizing its leaders' development, Novant fosters a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. This benefits the organization and enhances the quality of care and service it provides to those who rely on it.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with such dedicated and talented instructors and participants. The enthusiasm and commitment shown during these classes are truly inspiring. I look forward to seeing these training sessions' positive impact on their teams and the broader Novant Health community.
What #legacy will you leave behind?

Novant Health and Legacy FM co-hosted an impactful HAI Prevention training session for Novant's Plant Engineering professionals this week. The HAI Prevention 101, 201, and 301 classes covered the numerous important aspects of preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and ensuring regulatory compliance.
✨ Key Takeaways ✨
The team learned about common HAIs like CLABSI, CAUTI, and VAP, and the significant role plant engineering plays in controlling their spread.
The instructors explained the critical importance of HVAC systems in preventing airborne contaminants with hands-on exercises in monitoring pressure relationships and air exchange rates.
Addressing elevated infection risks related to water systems was a major focus, emphasizing the necessity of effective water management plans.
Nothing beats hands-on training! It was amazing to see how much more the class learned about PPE by practicing donning (putting on) and doffing (taking off) compared to watching a video or being told. These practical exercises were eye-openers, revealing how quickly pathogens can spread and reinforcing the importance of meticulous PPE use.
It was truly inspiring to see the "lightbulb moments" as participants realized how their work directly impacts HAI rates. This training empowered the engineering team with infection prevention skills and reinforced the critical connection between plant engineering and patient safety.
Hands-on learning for the win! 🙌🦠 Now, go wash yours 🙃 😜 🤜 💥 🤛

🌟 Team integration is the cornerstone of project success. 🌟
Shout out to Denton Wilson for shedding light on the importance of team integration at the recent HealthSpaces conference. The audience's survey responses are included below.
I was surprised to see how low standards and prototypes were prioritized for success.
It makes a ton of sense when you stop and think about it. Open and transparent communication fosters a culture of trust and shared understanding, which ultimately promotes project success. Integrating diverse skills and viewpoints results in more comprehensive and creative problem-solving. Aligning the team around common objectives ensures everyone works towards the same vision.
As healthcare facilities management professionals (or all professionals, for that matter), we should prioritize building cohesive teams and nurturing collaborative environments. By doing so, we enhance project success and contribute to creating safer and more efficient healthcare facilities.
Here's to championing teamwork and collaboration in our work endeavors! 🤝✨
