Apple's AI is finally here & it's huge! Apple Intelligence will empower billions of people to experience AI for the first time, right on their devices 👇😳 Apple's new personal artificial intelligence system is deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It combines generative AI models with personal context to deliver useful and relevant intelligence while maintaining user privacy. Here are the coolest AI features Apple just announced: (1) Free ChatGPT in every iPhone & Mac 🖥️ - You can access OpenAI's ChatGPT right from Siri and ask questions about your files, documents, or photos - Share photos with ChatGPT and get suggestions - Create images and texts within documents with ChatGPT (2) New, AI-powered Siri 2.0 🤖 - Apple has partnered with OpenAI to enable Siri to utilize ChatGPT for some requests - The updated Siri can determine intent, decipher complex queries, and respond to multiple questions in a row - It is integrated into core apps and supports typed requests (3) Photos app upgrades 📸 - The Photos app gains AI-powered editing tools to make elaborate adjustments, remove unwanted objects/people from photos, and improve organization by recognizing people from contacts - Apple Intelligence also enhances the Memories feature, allowing users to create personalized movies by simply describing what they want to see (4) Proactive AI assistance 👋 - Apple Intelligence takes a proactive role within apps to streamline tasks and optimize user interactions - This includes features like notification recaps, AI-enhanced autocorrect, browser summarization, speaker labeling in voice transcriptions, and more - These subtle AI enhancements aim to blend seamlessly into the user experience What's interesting is that 99% of Apple Intelligence is powered by Apple's own proprietary foundational models (FMs). They built a host of their own FMS and used licensed content to train and fine-tune those models. On top of that, Apple is using Apple Silicon in its own data centers - not NVIDIA chips - to power Apple Intelligence 😳 The best part? Private cloud compute allows Apple to draw on larger server-based models while protecting your privacy. Your data is never stored or sent to Apple 👏 Apple is basically layering AI on top of the entire OS that will soon make your iPhone the closest thing to an AI agent anyone has done to date. Game changer. P.S. check out 🔔linas.substack.com🔔, it's the only newsletter you need for all things when Finance meets Technology. For founders, builders, and leaders.
Next step? AI-driven finance 😎 Here's why Apple can become the leading force in building AI-driven finance, why it could be huge & more bonus reads: https://linas.substack.com/p/fintechpulse650
Do we trust this? They say all the AI is going to be done locally on the phone BUT how sure are we that's going to be done properly. AI + hardware is a huge leap. That puts a lot people's data at risk. I'm an AI advocate, enthusiast, officer and advisor and I'm still not sure I want this in my phone yet. Microsofts Recall AI feature was already a disaster.... Not as much news on that though 🙄 Linas Beliūnas
Billions of people have already experienced AI on a daily basis by using Google or Netflix for example during the last decade without noticing it (and this is definitely what works best). Generative AI is a recent sub-genre that is hyped and I do not think it should be a synonym for AI. It seems there has been a lot of confusion about this lately, and I think it can be detrimental to the whole AI industry in the long run, if this GenAI frenzy appears to be just a lot of fancy features that have very few use cases in real life.
Just watched several reviews and my internal gut reaction is HUGE: Human Understanding Got Eroded. The Ai Artificial Intelligence hype is a very big play of big tech to attract human eyeballs on their platform and is not about actually helping humans or "empower" people. But building humans not to think so big tech gets them hooked, addicted. Think over what was presented....Nothing in the Apple pitch was about helping the human, but all about keeping the human glued to the device. Do we REALLY need 25 ways of creating a cute avatar of a friend for a birthday card? In my view, Apple Intelligence presented shows the true intent of big tech....make users artificially intelligent so they become co-dependent on apple devices to think. It saddens me.
Apple outsources something and changes its name: Game Changer. 👍
Coming from a corporate environment with many Apple devices, I am curious about how they'll solve the data protection issues introduced by Siri-OpenAi integration. Companies will likely keep the ban on iOS upgrades until they are 100% certain about this. Another thing is ChatGPT performance. It is just plain slow. Flooded over by a gazillion Apple devices in just 2 days won't help.
Trust is a major issue for big tech, and it's important to recognise that Apple will certainly monetise user data generated from these new AI capabilities. As we embrace these innovations, users should be aware of how their data might be used, shared, and potentially abused. Can we truly trust big tech to act responsibly and with our best interests at heart when it comes to our personal data?
Siri? It's you again?
Well, Apple is still great in terms of experience design, which works perfectly with smart use of GenAI capabilities. P.S. most of all I'm impressed by their move towards security and local/device-based (mostly) LLM - it's much better direction in my opinion than sending everything to ChatGPT.
