The Upper Mississippi River Ports (IA & IL) are killing it as a regional economic development cluster and engine. Proof that regionally we can compete and win. Wonderful article in Site Selection Magazine. All four major cities in the UMRP made the top 10 list of total corporate facility investment projects, or projects per capita. This is exactly what a regional port-based economic development cluster and engine is all about - attracting investment into our riverfront communities. Full article in the comment below. https://lnkd.in/gFz6eAjq 1,800 jobs. $639 million capital investment. 25 economic development projects. Those are the numbers that represent the big job and investment deals within Winston-Salem and Forsyth County since 2020, according to Greater Winston-Salem Inc. To put that in perspective, in the decade between 2010 and 2020, the city only had 14 economic development projects, representing 2,604 jobs and a $906 million capital investment. So, Winston-Salem is outpacing its previous trend.

Really pleased with the Economics of Land Use Planning and Zoning, led by Philip O'Brien and Craig Watkins (and a minor input from myself). You can read the chapter in the Routledge Handbook of Housing Economics, link below. The impact of planning on housing economics hinges on both our understanding of what economics is, and the breadth of our accurate measurements (where this is possible). The fight for simple narratives will rumble on, but this chapter recognises that simplicity doesn't always equate to accuracy. The power of innovation-driven regeneration is the focus of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s UKREiiF discussion panel in Leeds this morning. Parallels with areas of #Lancashire - both in terms of industrial heritage and being home to R&D assets like AMRC - are obvious, but South Yorkshire’s Innovation District is clearly a more mature investment destination when compared to somewhere like Samlesbury. The contributions - from Emma Frost from the Innovations Districts Group, Tom Bousfield from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, and Kate Josephs CB from Sheffield City Council - all point to how South #Yorkshire has developed a really integrated and long-term approach to social and economic infrastructure investments. Some great learnings for Lancashire (and similar regions) who are pursuing their own innovation-led economic ambitions based on good, sustainable and inclusive growth.
