there is this quote "knowledge/education is free everywhere but it's the interest and the ability to learn that's lacking" if we want to solve education problems why are we focusing on knowledge and not on the later!? "Straight-A students don't start something until they understand it; D-students get started because they don't understand it." - Bob Moesta This is the best articulation I've heard of a phenomenon that wrecks startups. It's why so many professionals (MBAs, consultants, F500s, etc.) have a really hard time transitioning to early-stage startups. We think knowing comes before doing. In reality, there are so many variables that it's hopeless to try to figure everything out ex-ante. These things emerge from practice, not theory: - frameworks - processes - mental models - knowledge In my experience, you get a lot farther by just *doing* and learning, as quickly as possible. You learn what works in practice, and build around that - instead of trying to get the right answer from the start. In time, startups become math & processes. In the early days, it's mostly magic & fast learning.

("why good ideas are hard to find") Smart people understand businesses are marathons, not sprints. ("It's not that I'm so smart, I just stayed with problems longer") Startups are like riding a bicycle; they only work if you keep them moving forward. Question 3 for you to choose a field that gathers most of the great opportunities? Does the startup have the capability to grow quickly? If the market is large enough and has long-term growth potential, The next question you need to ask is whether the startup you are involved in: Has the capability to grow quickly? This largely depends on the number and experience of the startup's founding team. 10 points: -An ideal initial founding team consists of 3 people. Why? -The workload in the early stages of a startup is enormous, so having 3 people makes it easier to share the work. A three-legged stool is still the best. -Division of labor: One person in charge of technology and product development (CTO) One person in charge of marketing and selling the product (CMO, CSO) This person is often the CEO and the main driver of the company's vision and mission. One person in charge of management and fundraising (CFO) The main task is to manage cash flow tightly, and once the product is accepted by the market, to seek investment to enable the startup to grow rapidly. Example: When joining the BOD of the Edtech startup for Art and Design, DigiArt Academy I saw that the Edtech market was large enough to support many unicorn companies. The field of Edtech for Art and Design currently has no prominent players. Therefore, this is an opportunity for DigiArt Academy to grow quickly. In 2023, the company's revenue was VND 10 billion. In 2024, the target is to achieve at least 2.5 times that amount. To achieve this goal, I have been helping with fundraising efforts. I also introduced additional operational personnel to join the team. This allows the founder to focus on increasing sales, Capturing market victories quickly in the near future.

You can't outsource ambition. As the 2024 Neo Accelerator is about to kick off, I've been reflecting on my conversations with the past and incoming founders about what to expect and how to make the most of participating in the program. Simultaneously, I'm training for my next sporting event and if you've been following me for a while, you'll know I love a good athlete-founder analogy. Similarly to sports, the role of your coaches and mentors is to help you work on a plan to get to your goal, navigate hiccups, point you to the right resources and people, help keep you accountable and help you continuously adjust your goal as you iterate. In short, in the world of startups, they should support you to set and keep achieving (or outperform - and then set a higher goal for) your desired growth rate. Their job isn't to instil ambition; that's a necessary prerequisite for you to get started. When talking to early-stage founders going through various accelerator and startup programs, I often notice that some of them are hoping the program will help them "fix" or "figure out" their company's success. But that isn't the program's job. What it can do is help you set goals, answer questions and navigate most scenarios along the way, but you have to have the desire to get from A to B and know what the B is, at least approximately (i.e. have a vision), which your mentors can help you define.
