You may think of firefighters, nurses, or EMTs when asked which hardworking professionals make the most significant contributions to society. Sometimes, social workers can be overlooked. However, social workers may also need to be recognized, as they typically support social justice, human rights, and social development. On a daily basis, social work may include the following responsibilities: Supporting individual well-being Addressing complex issues within their communities Advocating for marginalized and underrepresented populations Helping ensure availability to basic human rights and necessities like water, food, shelter, and healthcare Social workers can make a difference every day by striving to create an equal and fair society and providing a safety net for those in need. Their work often spans far and wide, from supporting individuals through challenging life transitions to advocating for child protection and addressing issues like substance misuse and mental health. Yet, their impact may go beyond professional duties, as they can serve as a voice for many across the globe. Principal Consultant - interested in the relationship between place, health, care and physical activity. Expert evaluator.
Workforce research in social care often (and understandably) focuses on the various challenges the sector faces. But it's important to also understand where things are going well, and where we can learn from others. Our work with Gofal Cymdeithasol Cymru / Social Care Wales brought attention to lots of successes and innovations happening in Wales. While the place-based nature of workforce and social care means not every solution will work everywhere, there are some important lessons that should help employers across the UK.
🤝 We recently published research that looked at the current challenges in attracting and recruiting social care and child care workers in Wales. We worked with an organisation called Urban Foresight to carry out that research, which also focused on the important role Gofalwn Cymru | WeCare Wales has played and will play in the future. Maddy Thompson led the research and has written a blog about its findings for our Insight Collective website. 🗣 "While lots of challenges were highlighted, we also found out that it’s not all bad. Some people are really passionate about working in the sector, and some employers are doing fantastic things to bring them in. There are lots of important lessons that other employers should consider. "We found that across the country, employers and care providers were producing creative responses to the challenge." 👉 Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/eMV_xNMy A big thank you to everyone who's working hard to recruit the best people into social care, and to those delivering care and support across Wales. #SocialCare #Recruitment
