Are you familiar with long COVID? There may be many suffering in silence or just do not know where to go for help. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines long Covid as “a wide range of new, returning, or ongoing health problems that people experience after being infected with the virus that causes Covid-19.” More than 200 symptoms have been tied to the condition. Persistent fatigue, brain fog and depleted energy after even a minimal effort are the most frequent and prolonged among them, according to the World Health Organization. The UB medical school has a new UBMD Long Covid Recovery Center, which takes a holistic approach to treating patients with the lingering condition as its researchers continue to gather information about what causes it and what steps can provide the most relief. https://lnkd.in/gYmrcFQt

February is RedFeb Heart Research Awareness Month! #REDFEB aims to raise awareness for heart disease, also known as cardiovascular disease (CVD). As the leading cause of death across the region, nearly 60,000 residents in 2021 reported living with CVD and nearly 14,000 residents reporting having had a stroke. To better understand local needs and identify areas for improvement, the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network has partnered with the Victorian Agency for Health Information (VAHI), Outcome Health and general practices to co-develop an innovate data linkage asset. This Victorian-first partnership will provide a better view of where, when and how Victorians receive care, and ultimately improve health outcomes of Victorians with or at risk of CVD. In a report published today by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, findings show that too many people are still dying from #sepsis due to "the same mistakes" highlighted in a report published more than 10 years ago. According to The UK Sepsis Trust, estimates show that 48,0000 people die of sepsis-related illnesses in the UK each year. Rob Behrens CBE's report has found there were still delays in spotting and treating the condition in hospitals. This is why early-detection is vital. This is why we’ve been working to bring a pioneering solution to the market that could potentially save the lives of millions around the world. Our spin-out Presymptom Health was founded to exploit ground-breaking innovation to leverage the host response to detect infection and sepsis in patients up to three days before symptoms appear. It is currently conducting its multisite NHS PRECISION clinical trial at 9 hospitals, which began enrolling patients in May 2021 and has the potential to: · Save up to 11 million lives globally, annually · Bring cost savings to UK economy of up to £8 billion/year Our case study tells you more about Presymptom Health, its founders and how this pioneering technology was first developed in the UK Ministry of Defence's Defence and Science Technology Laboratory (Dstl) - https://lnkd.in/e7DMbA9P #science #innovation #technology #medtech #spinout #savinglives #impact
