In the dynamic world of product design, understanding and selecting the right user personas is crucial for driving engagement and growth. Personas are not just fictional characters but explicit representations of our target audience that guide our design decisions and strategies. However, when a product is provided to multiple personas, how do we decide which one to prioritize for a particular feature or change? ⛱ Here's how to navigate this situation, along with some insights from my own experience: 1-Simplicity Attracts: In my journey as a product designer, I've learned that sometimes, simplicity is key. When our goal was to attract users to a specific part of our product, we opted for personas that embodied minimal complexity. This approach resonated well with new users, making the product more approachable and reducing the learning curve. 2-Capability for Capital: On the other hand, when our objective shifted towards attracting capital, we targeted personas with a higher income potential. These personas were not just about wealth; they were sophisticated users who sought value and were willing to invest in premium features. By aligning our product with their expectations, we were able to tap into a more lucrative market segment. 3-Data-Driven Decisions: Our assumptions about who benefits most from a product can be wrong. Data can be important!! In one instance, research data surprised us by highlighting a persona with a deep understanding of our product's intricacies. 💣 So, how should we choose the right persona among many? Consider the following steps: 1- Identify Your Goals: Clearly define what you want to achieve with the product change. Is it user acquisition, increased capital, or enhanced engagement? 2- Impact Analysis: For each persona, analyze the potential impact of the change. Will it address their pain points, enhance their experience, or potentially create friction? Consider the level of impact for each persona. 3- Analyze Your Data: Look at the data from user research. Which personas are most likely to help you meet your goals? 4. Long-Term Vision: Don't neglect the future. While a specific persona might be crucial now, consider how the change aligns with your long-term vision for the product and its user base. 💡 There's no one-size-fits-all approach. The best persona to focus on will depend on the specific situation and your overall product strategy. 📚 As John Pruitt  and Tamara Adlin put it in their book 'The Persona Lifecycle,' 'Personas are not static entities; they are living, breathing representations that evolve as we learn more about our users.'" ✍ What's your experience? Over the past 9 months, our design worked hand-in-hand to craft a system that's not only beautiful but also efficient and scalable.  Here's a peek into how collaboration fueled our success: 📗 Speaking the Same Language: Bridging the designer-developer gap was crucial. We adopted developer naming conventions for layers and components. This seemingly small detail went a long way in streamlining communication and ensuring everyone was on the same page. There were times when layer names went back and forth for revisions, but that effort resulted in a unified language for our design system. 🎄 Architecture by Committee: Our design system's architecture wasn't fixed from the start. Instead, we held regular workshops and discussions. This collaborative approach allowed us to gather feedback, iterate on the structure, and ensure it meets the diverse needs and workflows of our team. 👩💻The Power of Interaction: Constant communication and check-ins were vital. Weekly demos showcased progress, fostered early feedback and prevented major roadblocks later on. This interactive approach promoted transparency and kept everyone invested in the project. Understanding the impact of cognitive biases on increasing user engagement rates. We all recognize the power of data visualization, particularly in the domain of finance. Charts and graphs empower us to solve complex information and make well-informed decisions. However, have you ever considered how cognitive biases can influence users' interactions with these visualizations?  At Soshyant, we recently conducted a thorough examination of the charting feature in our stock market app, mining valuable insights about cognitive biases and their effects on user engagement. Let's delve into the specific enhancements we made to our app's symbol details page, where a compact chart illustrates price fluctuations across different time frames. Our goal was to enhance the chart's accessibility and informativeness: 1. Yesterday's Price Line: Recognizing the significance for trading users to compare and evaluate, we leveraged the anchoring bias. By emphasizing yesterday's price as the initial reference point, we facilitated more effective judgment and evaluation of changes. 2. Time Frame Implementation: To counteract the recency bias, which tends to overweight recent information, we introduced a time frame. This allowed users to analyze data over broader horizons, promoting a more balanced perspective. 3. Displaying Price/Active Time in Drag: We strategically designed an emotional trigger to evoke strong reactions—whether positive or negative. By directing users' attention to specific data points and relying solely on visual cues, we harnessed the power of bias to enhance engagement. 4. Dynamic Color Based on Change: Our approach combined both attention bias and negativity bias. We purposely boosted the latter, ensuring that negative information immediately captured users' attention. As users interacted with the chart by dragging their finger, the color dynamically reflected market fluctuations—both positive and negative. **Result? A remarkable 40% increase in user engagement. Cognitive Biases in Play: This wasn't simply about fancy features. It involved understanding and addressing inherent cognitive biases that can distort user understanding and decision-making. By considering biases like anchoring, recency, attention, and negativity, we designed a chart that resonated with users and fostered deeper engagement. A few points: 1- User behavior isn't always rational. Cognitive biases influence how we interact with information. 2- Understanding these biases can inform design decisions and improve the user experience. 3- Small tweaks can significantly impact user engagement and decision-making.
