This further highlights why we, more than ever, need a strong, militant, and progressive union movement. At one time Australia led the world as a social laboratory, with the world's first social-democratic government (Queensland in 1893), but now from a social equity and social justice perspective, Australia is a basket case and a laughing stock, up there (r should it be down there?) with the USA. Also if any bosses, and their lackeys, out there are planning an anti-union diatribe, it is strong unionism that brings about civilised and decent working conditions, an effective social security safety net, and a strong universal public health care system.
There are a lot of great things coming to workers on 1 July, only made possible thanks to the efforts of union members, including: 🌟 Minimum and award wages increasing by 3.75% 🌟 Cost-of-living tax bonus for all workers 🌟 $300 energy relief payment 🌟 Superannuation guarantee increasing to 11.5% 🌟 Paid parental leave increasing to 22 weeks 🌟 Engineered stone banned If you ever needed proof of why the work union members do is invaluable, look no further. Join your union today if you haven't already: https://lnkd.in/ga_4h-KD

Following the general election announcement yesterday, the Recruitment & Employment Confederation is sending a clear message to politicians - work with us to get the labour market right and we can unlock growth. “Economic growth and competitiveness need to be at the heart of this election campaign. A vibrant economy is the only way to higher wages, better public services, and lower taxes. We have highlighted paths to all of that in our manifesto document by using the insights of recruiters who have a front-line view to how we get there." https://lnkd.in/eheZfam2

Indeed. ~$22M over forward estimates for social enterprise is better than nothing. In addition to: ~$8m for impact investment into "People at risk of homelessness" ~$6m for impact investment towards "Vulnerable Priority Groups" (and state project support grant funding including) ~$8m for a "Critical Minerals National Productivity Initiative ~$7.5M for Sustainable Households Initiative ~$100M for Community Solar Banks ~$35M for Food Waste to Healthy Soils ~$130M for Drought Resilience, Water Security, Community Resilience ~$290M for Social Housing Energy Upgrades ~$82M for Hydrogen supply chains ~$200 for Plastics and Recycling Initiatives ~(only?)$2.4M for First Nations Culture and World Heritage *these are figures extracted directly from budget costing papers 1+3, and may not include amounts previously announced ..and interestingly only $220M for Disaster Funding and Disaster Risk Reduction which seems like it should be much higher given the billions going in to a fossil fuel gas expansion strategy. But back to the social enterprise announcement: "Changes include the introduction of new paid employment pathways to support job seekers with complex barriers to work, with jobs paid at award or above wages in social enterprises"
Good to see social enterprise recognised as part employment services reform in tonight's budget. A modest investment but a good start. #Budget2024

So, the starting pistol has been fired for the six-week sprint to a general election which will be held on 4th July. Issues like small boats, the NHS and the economy may dominate much of the headlines, but the outcome of the election will be of huge significance to employment law too, and therefore SME employers. We already know the trajectory of Conservative policy on employment law: a restriction on trade union activity; an extension of the right to request flexible working; a ticking upwards of the National Minimum Wage and Living wage in line with Low Pay Commission recommendations; and the introduction of a week’s unpaid Carer’s Leave per year have been some of the recent initiatives. The most radical thing has probably been the post-Brexit shake-up of who has a right to work in the UK. Dot points 2 and 3. Excellent. Hope that some of the smaller social enterprises not backed by large NFPs will get some much needed financial support through this. #socialenterprise #workintegratedsocialenterprise

Leading, connecting, collaborating and developing professionals in the Employability sector across the globe with this multi-award winning team. Supporting governments to develop and improve employability eco-systems.
Congratulations to the Labour Party on Their Historic Election Victory The IEP extend our congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer and his Labour Party colleagues on their recent election victory. We look forward to working with the new government to ensure employability services are accessible to all who need them and are provided by people who understand their unique requirements. Engagement, employability, and skills must be seamlessly integrated to be successful. The new government faces the critical task of improving employment and skills to create and develop growth within our economy and widen opportunities for all. Achieving these goals will require cooperation amongst government, trade unions, employers, devolved administrations, and community groups, ultimately leading to a fairer and more prosperous country. IEP Group CEO Scott Parkin FIEP stated: “The new government has a responsibility to listen to the people and learn from these election results. We are living in a rapidly changing world, and while the future is uncertain, the election outcome reminds us that we all have a voice and the power to use it. https://lnkd.in/e4GJ-WFZ @IEPInfo #IEPNews #Employability @MrEmployability #UKElection @UKLabour #EmployabilityElection
