Nice post! worth reading it! I completely agree that tackling RDM (Research Data Management) necessitates a socio-technical approach. To me, it's indisputable that RDM is primarily a strategic problem rather than an operational one. Without a solid strategy in place, establishing a "research data/research object" governance becomes challenging, and as a result, operational stewardship may not be effectively realized. #foodforthought

I’m super excited to share that the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII) has officially launched the new Data Request Management System (DRMS), a project I designed and developed from scratch. After becoming the chair of the data committee a few years ago at CeSTII, I noticed long standing inefficiencies in the way data requests were being handled. With budget cuts in government and no money for procurement of new IT systems, I took it up on myself to design and develop a system that will help digitalise the (previously) manual data request processes. This solution helps to streamline the data request processes and speed up turn around times for data requests within CeSTII. It provides incredible reporting capabilities, and enhances our internal data management processes. The system also makes it easier for us to track the impactful use of CeSTII’s data by a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, NGOs, journalists, and students. This is a significant milestone in our data management capabilities and I am super proud that the system has finally been institutionalised at CeSTII. Oooh.. by the way… I forgot to say, the DRMS has brought about substantial savings in IT procurement costs for the HSRC/CeSTII. 🚀A few features of CeSTII’s New DRMS User-Friendly Online Platform: Users can now easily register and submit specialised data requests online at https://lnkd.in/dAf8JD2G Instant Updates & Real-Time Notifications: Keep track of your data request status with ease, thanks to our real-time notification feature. Enhanced Efficiency & Transparency: Faster turnaround times and full transparency throughout the process, ensuring a better user experience. #Innovation #DataManagement #TechInnovation #Efficiency #HSRC #ProudDeveloper

Data Center Construction | Owner's Representative | Project Engineer | MBA | BS Urban Planner & Designer
Excited to share that I have officially graduated my MBA in International Business Management from Centria University of Applied Sciences in Kokkola, Finland! I am grateful for the support and encouragement from everyone who helped make this achievement possible. As I move forward, I am excited to leverage my academic knowledge to continue driving a positive impact on the data center construction industry. For my dissertation, I conducted an international market opportunity analysis and market selection for an equitable future expansion of the European data center industry. The purpose was to understand the data center industry in Europe and to explore the opportunities to expand it. Based on my research findings, the main objectives were to determine which factors had the biggest impact in local market expansion by analysing the current state of the industry in Europe, as well as to research the factors that most influence the quality and functionality of a data center, conduct a systematic market selection process, determine which countries would be the most viable location candidates to develop the industry within and provide market entry strategy recommendations for the selected countries. The theoretical framework consisted of research on the topics of market opportunity analysis, market research, market selection and market entry strategies followed by an examination of the European data center industry based on qualitative and quantitative secondary data, upon which I carried out an assessment to determine the factors contributing to the 2024 international environment. Consequently, I investigated the data center industry to identify the factors prioritized in the decision-making process of industry development. Based on these findings, I utilized the PESTEL tool to conduct a preliminary screening of all European countries, with relevant statistical data collected from ethical sources. I then created ranked tables for all analysed factors, drawing general conclusions from political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, ecological and legal perspectives. In a final step, I compiled the resulting information into two tables summarizing each European country’s performance across the six categories of factors, including those with the most favourable statistical data for local data center industry expansion and those with the least favourable data. A market opportunity analysis was conducted and the final best candidates for local expansion were determined by excluding countries where the industry was already well developed, aiming to achieve equitable, uniform international expansion. The thesis concluded with considerations on potential market entry strategies for the selected countries: Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, and Slovenia. If you are interested in reading my dissertation, you may find it published here: https://lnkd.in/dumf4Q9D

Our #PRIMEprojectEU is working to identify viable policy solutions to improve conditions for #irregularmigrants in Europe. But we're doing so in partnership with other Horizon Europe projects. Who are they? Over the next few weeks we'll introduce you to some of them and the work they're doing. One of them is the MIrreM - Measuring Irregular Migration led by Albert Kraler at Universität für Weiterbildung Krems. MIrreM dives into the numbers #️⃣. Here are 5️⃣ things they're researching: 1. how irregular migration is being measured 📈 2. the strength 💪 of the current estimates and statistical indicators 3. what new approaches there could be to have better data on irregular migration 4. the impact of of regularistation policies 5. recommendations 📣 for improving data on irregular migration Check out their recently published working paper 📝 which will give you an overview of traditional and innovative methods in measuring irregular migration ➡️ https://loom.ly/4RnazYU If you're interested in better understanding irregular migration then make sure to follow them.

📢 Track: "Data Management and Data Sharing in Ecosystems" at the European Conference on Information Systems (#ECIS2024). Boris Otto, Cinzia Cappiello, and I thrilled to share that the track on Data Sharing and Ecosystems will continue in 2024 and invite all IS researchers to submit their latest research papers. 🔍 Track description: To promote data-driven innovation in ecosystems, the EU and its member states have put emphasis on data sharing and the creation of data spaces and platforms. Major public and private investments have been made in these fields (e.g. Gaia-X), and regulations (e.g. the EU Data Governance Act or the EU Data Act) have been proposed to provide more clarity on data access and responsibilities for different actors in the ecosystem. This track aims at providing a common ground and further developing data-related research in the IS community, by bringing together researchers who study how data should be properly and effectively represented and managed in such scenarios. We invite submissions from different disciplinary angles and are open to all research paradigms. 🗓️ Important dates: Submission Deadline: 17 November 2023, 23:59 CET (Central European Time) Notification: 28 February 2024 Conference: 13-19 June 2024 For a detailed track description, please check the ECIS 2024 website (link in the comments). In this new article published by IMR, we delve into the significance of high-quality international migration data for policymakers, researchers, and analysts. National Statistical Institutions (NSIs) play a pivotal role in collecting and reporting this data. We introduce the innovative "problem-centered institution questionnaire methodology" and assess the challenges faced by NSIs in 30 countries. We identify the gaps in data, especially in countries without legal obligations for data collection. Our solutions: time, political attention, and a shift to administrative sources. Collaboration among NSIs is key. Many countries still rely on censuses and large-scale surveys for international migration stock data.
