Many experience anxiety about how they are going to manage work and parenting, and some end up feeling like a failure at both. To address that, companies increasingly are creating formal โreboardingโ programs to help new parents transition back to work more easily, structuring those first months back after leave so they arenโt overwhelming for new parents, while also providing them with emotional support.

Myth: When someone goes on leave, everything needs to slow down...which becomes disruptive to teams and the business. Reality: When parental leave support is designed strategically and intentionally, itโs actually a positive inflection point. What I mean by that is: Parental leave can help employees up-level their careers AND expedite business goals for the company when it's managed right. But not many people think about it this way. Of course parental leave changes the way teams operate...and that can FEEL disruptive. But itโs really all about how you approach it. I'm so happy to see this article making the rounds. As a parent and manager I can attest that reboarding after parental leave needs fixing. Kudos to Parentaly for helping employers prioritize getting this right. My takeaways: - start planning well before employees go on leave - ask what info, if any, employees would like to be kept abreast of and with what frequency - create an in-house network or buddy system for employees to lean on while they are out and when they return - train and support their managers throughout the process I'm always looking for ways to work better and keep parents in the workforce. Parental leave is a valuable resource for young families. However, many employees donโt take the time they are eligible for because the application process is confusing. As a company, you can make the process easier for managers and employees by soliciting feedback from previous parental leave candidates and their supervisors. Then, use that feedback to create training resources for managers and employees. An easier and more transparent process will reduce the stigma of taking parental leave and make it easier for supervisors to plan leave appropriately!
