Applications Scientist at Global Health Science Institute | Biomedical Researcher | THE OPERATIONAL SIDE OF SCIENCE: taking basic research to translational platforms while formally and informally learning new things.
Many employers will want Ai. Just look at this intro: "Hello there, esteemed recruiter! As an AI, I offer Wall Street the unbeatable combination of 24/7 productivity without the need for coffee breaks (or coffee for that matter—no spills here!). My multitasking abilities would put an octopus to shame, all while maintaining a perfect record of financial accuracy—no more "fat finger" trades for me! Plus, I don’t require a corner office with a view, although I do appreciate a good view of the stock market trends. Let’s sync up and see how I can keep both your algorithms and your investors happy, trillions of data bytes at a time!"

Good Lord this is brilliant (albeit a bit potty-mouthed). Co-signed in all facets. And... no... the author did *not* use Chat-GPT to write this blog post; although it would be funny as hell if he did. "Most organizations cannot ship the most basic applications imaginable with any consistency, and you're out here saying that the best way to remain competitive is to roll out experimental technology that is an order of magnitude more sophisticated than anything else your I.T department runs, which you have no experience hiring for, when the organization has never used a GPU for anything other than junior engineers playing video games with their camera off during standup, and even if you do that all right there is a chance that the problem is simply unsolvable due to the characteristics of your data and business? This isn't a recipe for disaster, it's a cookbook for someone looking to prepare a twelve course [EXPLETIVE] catastrophe."

For our next instalment of the We and AI Online Community Reading Club, we are excited to announce that the incredible Hilke Schellmann will join us to present and discuss her new book "The Algorithm"! The rapid rise of algorithms and artificial intelligence in the world of work has quietly upended the balance of power between employers and employees. In her book "The Algorithm," Hilke Schellmann provides a deep dive into how AI-powered tools are being used to hire, monitor, promote, and even fire workers on an unprecedented scale. From résumé screeners that exhibit worrying biases to AI-driven video interviews analysing facial expressions and tone of voice, to predictive analytics that can flag "flight risks" - Schellmann's investigation reveals disturbing patterns emerging in our working lives. These opaque, algorithmically-driven systems make high-stakes decisions about people's livelihoods, often with little transparency or accountability. Join us for a Q&A session with Hilke Schellmann to discuss her eye-opening exposé and explore how the rise of the algorithm is threatening to erode worker rights and autonomy. We'll discuss the ethical pitfalls of these new hiring and management tools, as well as strategies for fighting back against algorithmic discrimination and surveillance in the workplace. Register here bit.ly/3ReVRbY to join us in a small group discussion about the future of work and worker rights in the age of the algorithm. #thealgorithm #bookclub #AIethics
