Goals are important…critical even…
But the goal cannot get in front of the process…
Using basketball as an example…
Shooting drills often have made shots as part of their evaluation matrix…
Say, you must make five shots in a row from a certain spot on the floor before you can move to the next spot…
If the shooter is focused solely on the goal, they may miss the point of the drill completely…
It is making those shots utilizing the right form etc…
In other words the process of the goal is to learn how to consistently shoot properly leading to sustainable success…
But the goal is making five in a row…
Hitting the goal is nice but learning the process of taking a proper shot is much more important in the long run…
Otherwise we can take short cuts and expend all our energy doing things the wrong way just to hit the goal…
Which means we don’t learn at all despite thinking we did…
Never allow the goal to take preeminence over the process…
The process is repeatable and useable long after your goal has been reached…
Provided that you learned the process…
Be encouraged and be awesome today….

People are the first part of my Pentagon Process, it’s so key that leaders and senior management understand that their job is to help and support, basically work for the people in their teams. If they shine and are productive the business benefits are magnified.
If done right it’s magical to watch.

This week, look after people.
Celebrate others, raise them up, wish the best for those around you, be a lightening conductor for other people’s moods…your energy can do great things.
This video is Robert De Zerbi. He is the Brighton boss, and this weekend lauded his former player Alexis MacAllister who was returning to Brighton. Class move.
Go make someone feel great.

“Leadership Beyond the Game: The Lasting Impact of People Journey Mapping 🌟
I agree with the post from Jake Humphrey; what a great post!
The post features a powerful video featuring Robert De Zerbi and his ex-player Alexis MacAllister at the end of this weekend's match between Brighton and Liverpool.
What struck me was how De Zerbi took time at the end of the game not just to shake MacAllister’s hand but to ensure he received a standing ovation from everyone – the crowd, the fans, the players, and the staff.
This got me thinking about a workshop I led last Friday on ‘People Journey Mapping’ with the Aspire Active Education Group Ltd Partners, which delved into recruitment, retention, training, and, inevitably, departures.
This video exemplifies how a true leader treats people respectfully and with dignity, acknowledging that employees may come and go. The key is to ensure they leave on good terms, enriched by their experience within your organisation.
As leaders, it’s our responsibility to make the people's journey positive and transformative. Acknowledging someone’s contributions can leave a lasting impact beyond your organisation.
In our workshop, we were fortunate to have valuable insights from Luke Johnson (he/him) and Tom Trout of Love Recruitment Ltd. They provided eye-opening perspectives on the actual costs of recruitment, reinforcing the notion that a practical journey map is not just a feel-good initiative; it’s also a financial imperative for businesses.
Thank you, Luke and Tom, for shedding light on this critical aspect and enriching our discussion.
Re-sharing the video here, let it serve as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful leadership and the positive effects of a well-executed people journey map.

No matter what you're doing, the key to victory is eliminating blind spots.
All mistakes come from blind spots.
No blind spots = no mistakes.
The key to eliminating mistakes is the proper perspective.
Goals are for people who care about winning once. Systems are for people who care about winning repeatedly. (James Clear) Schedule well-deserved time for yourself to review your goals & systems to ensure you're on track. https://ow.ly/F66y50Pw7Iq
This post is reminiscent of the ‘Trolley Dilemma’ - an ethical thought experiment where there is a runaway trolley moving down railway tracks. In its path, there are five people tied up and unable to move and the trolley is heading straight for them.
People are told that they are standing some distance off in the train yard, next to a lever. If they pull this lever, the trolley will switch to a different set of tracks – but will kill one person who is standing on the side track.
The people have the option to either do nothing, and allow the trolley to kill the five people on the main track, or pull the lever, diverting the trolley onto the side track where it will kill one person.
What would you do in this situation?
