🔒 Data Privacy Unveiled: Safeguarding Our Digital Lives Organizations are investing in technology to effectively use consumer data, collect more for personalization, and increase business value. Data privacy stands as the guardian of our personal information in an interconnected world. It ensures that the details we share are handled responsibly and ethically, including our names, addresses, and preferences. But how is it enforced? Do you know. Global Landscape: - Data privacy regulations span continents, each with its own watchdogs. - In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ensures companies keep their data protection promises, with state laws also playing a role. - The European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) sets high standards, emphasizing transparency, consent, and individual rights. - Interactive tools like the DLA Piper Global Data Protection Laws Map and the IAPP Global Privacy Law Directory identify laws and data protection authorities worldwide. Regulators in Action: - Privacy regulators like the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and Germany’s Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) monitor compliance, investigate breaches, and enforce penalties to safeguard our digital rights. Remember, data privacy isn’t just jargon—it’s our shield against digital dragons. Let's champion it together! 🌟🔍 #PrivacyMatters #DataProtection #KnowledgeEmpowersYou (KEY) #EmpowerPurpose #Learn > #Change #GrowthMindset #LBFAlumni #SkyHighTower

From today (12th of October 2023), certified US organisations can use the UK extension ("UK-US Data Bridge") to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework to easily transfer personal data from the UK to the US and vice versa. However, I'd be remiss not to add that this is in place for now as there is always the possibility of further legal action challenging the validity of the UK-US Data Bridge and the corresponding EU-US Data Privacy Framework. If you'd like to find out more, read the below blog for more information. #UKUSDataBridge #EUUSDataPrivacyFramework #DataProtection #InternationalTransfers #GDPR #InformationGovernance #DataPrivacy #UKUSDataTransfers #8foldGovernance

A hallelujah moment: effective October 12, the UK has approved "adequacy" to the US for data transfers via a Data Bridge (their phrase for adequacy in the data protection world)! This is a big help to the triangulation issue of EU-UK-US data transfers. With the Data Bridge, organizations in the U.K. will be able to transfer personal data to U.S. organizations certified to the "U.K. Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework" without the need for further safeguards, such as international data transfer agreements (the U.K. version of the EU's standard contractual clauses or binding corporate rules). Thanks, IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals, for the summary article! #dataprotection #datatransfers #dataprivacy #UKGDPR #databridge #adequacy #personaldata #dataprivacyframework #SCCs #standardcontractualclauses #privacymatters https://lnkd.in/g86R6Myw

UK Data bill favors big business and ‘shady’ tech firms, rights group claims ⏬ U.K. advocacy group Open Rights Group accused members of the U.K. Parliament of weakening provisions governing data subject access requests in the proposed Data Protection and Digital Information Bill. ⏬ The Bill's DSAR language previously mirrored the EU General Data Protection Regulation, which allows organizations to charge for a DSAR only under "manifestly unfounded or excessive" conditions. ⏬ However, the changed language allows organizations to charge for a DSAR in the U.K. under "vexatious or excessive" conditions. ⏬ #dataprotection #gdprcompliance Read the Full story here: https://lnkd.in/d4C7SSUr
