Scratch Foundation looks forward to continuing its partnership with The LEGO Foundation and the LEGO Group to accelerate the reach of learning through play globally. This grant will support the Scratch Foundation in the following areas: - Programs: Expanding the Scratch Education Collaborative (SEC)—a transformative initiative aimed at strengthening local organizations' commitment to equitable creative computing—to build networks of local strategic partners who can champion creative learning and co-design learning opportunities with educators around the world. To date, the SEC has worked with more than 170 organizations in 40+ countries. - Research: Conducting research to better understand and measure how children engage with Scratch, and to support and extend the Responsible Innovations in Technology for Children (RITEC) framework. The Foundation will collaborate with research partners, including the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, and Rutgers University, among others, to accomplish this work. - Product Development: Modernizing the Scratch platform in order to meet important objectives including securing long-term sustainability amid dramatic growth in users worldwide; developing new, innovative, and evidence-based features; improving the user onboarding experience; and continuing to be a leader in the creative learning movement. #Scratch #Lego #Play #Learning #CreativeCoding #Education #LEGO #computerscience #teaching #nonprofits #scratcheducationcollaborative

Chaos ensues. 🧱🔄 Phase 2: Dad to the rescue! But wait... They're teaching me? 🤔👀 Takeaways: Age is just a number when it comes to brilliance 💡👶 Teamwork makes the dream work - and sometimes the least experienced have the coolest ideas! 🌟👥 Everyone’s a teacher AND a learner - yes, that means you too, grown-ups! 📚❤️ Turns out, my kids are tiny mentors with big lessons. Great article to help me think more deeply about STEM education. The myth I've always had about STEM education is that the word science covers a much broader spectrum than technology, engineering, and math, such as the question posed in the article: are social and political sciences considered science? But if you look at it from the point of view of developing competence rather than imparting knowledge, teaching children the scientific way of thinking and the resilience needed behind the learning of science can be beneficial to their careers in any of these fields. Similarly, incorporating art into the system will incorporate the child's orientation towards more competencies such as creativity, etc. STEM education is not only the education of knowledge, it is also the education of competence and thinking method.
