I love this simple but powerful perspective that we sometimes forget in healthcare - be kind to patients, especially those who may feel shame like the example here of pregnant patients with SUD. We see this every day at Wildflower in case studies where patients open up to our health advocates because our amazing team members led by David Van Der Wal treat people with empathy, respect, and kindness. While taking the time to treat people this way may seem obvious and may not be a clinical breakthrough, it’s often missing in our overburdened system, and it’s a crucial ingredient on the journey to transform healthcare.
It's amazing how often patients are forgotten in Healthcare despite the fact that the entire system would not exist without the need to care for patients
Empathy is often forgotten in the world of healthcare where providers are increasingly squeezed by unteneble time restrictions for too many reasons. This is seen so often in the pregnant and postpartum areas where it arguably needed the most.
Empathy and kindness can truly make a world of difference in healthcare. ✨ Leah Sparks

4moSimple but true - be kind - prior to reading this article this morning, I was working in a local garden amongst the flowers and reflecting on the week. Nearly every Friday David Van Der Wal shares an encounter from the previous week where one of our amazing Wildflower Health Advocates supported a patient, made an impact. Those stories motivate us to do more to dig deeper, sometimes it draws tears and then a bit of joy that today we made a difference.
