Struggling with your mental health? I’m so sorry you are going through it. I've been there. Consistent sleep becomes impossible, memory starts to slip, and even the simplest tasks become clouded by illogical reasoning. It feels like it’ll never end. It’s exhausting. And, seeking help is a chore. Especially when mental health is stigmatized or misunderstood, at home or at work. Depression and anxiety lurk in the shadows, derailing our best-laid plans. They crushed my confidence, deteriorated my physical health, and brought me to a standstill. At my most vulnerable, I shared the truth with my manager and was met with inaction. A swing and a miss. It was a stark reminder of the gaps in our response to mental health in the workplace. Eventually, I stepped away from a role I loved to focus on recovery. At first, my condition worsened. I hadn’t prioritized myself in years. And that self-betrayal stung. My path forward included months of therapy, meditation, yoga, and support from a care team, family, and friends. I pulled through it and am a better human because of it. It’s an employment gap I will never regret. If you’ve hit a wall, consider it an invitation to rest. Even the pros do: Simone Biles, Serena Williams, Michael Phelps, Naomi Osaka… Moving forward, our workplaces can play a role in preventing burnout. Where to start? Ensure your policies support humans and consider impact.  Equip HR and managers to navigate mental health with grace and compassion. Implement standards of conduct so impressive that your teams speak with pride about where they work. That’s what “culture” is actually about. Watch as it becomes your most effective recruitment & retention strategy. And, when people struggle, help. Listen, empathize, and guide them through it. Imagine a company where everyone is at their mental and physical best... The innovation, productivity, loyalty... Lead by nurturing and celebrating mental health. Our future depends on it. 💬 Join the Conversation: Do you have an experience with mental health in the workplace? How does your company support mental health and overall wellness?
