Interesting — this was the second post this week on LinkedIn where a serious topic was discussed and emojis were used in the copy. Is this a trend? Are emojis coming to the adult vocabulary? 7 years ago when I started working on the gaming site I’m working now (RoyaleAPI ), I noticed how the kids (16-25) would say that I write like a bot (from my daily interaction with them on Twitter and Discord). Eventually, I asked and they told me it’s because I always write complete sentences, and that I don’t use emojis. I still write in complete sentences (philosophical issue), but overtime I picked up using emojis to express emotions better. When I talked to my friends and several zoom calls, they would give me funny looks or make me feel somewhat self conscious — in turn, actively removing emojis from my messages to not “look like an idiot” 😅. But if emojis are finally acceptable even on LinkedIn then maybe I would no longer look so weird. Thanks for doing this. The Telephone Game in Tech: Remember the telephone game from childhood? It starts with a whisper, but by the time it reaches the end of the line, the message is so distorted it's barely recognizable. Sounds familiar, right? In the tech world, we often face the same challenge. A brilliant idea gets passed down from person to person, department to department, and before you know it, the original vision is lost in translation. It's like ordering a PB&J and receiving a ham sandwich with a side of confusion. Take this video as an example. Someone, somewhere, should have caught this before it was sent off to school. When we don't collaborate effectively, we risk delivering projects that are far from what was initially envisioned. It's not just about the product; it's about the process and the people involved. As a team, it's our collective responsibility to ensure that everyone is on the same page. We need to communicate clearly, listen actively, and work together to bring our shared vision to life. It's not always easy, but it's essential if we want to create something truly remarkable. So, let's take a page from the telephone game and learn from its cautionary tale. Let's prioritize open communication, encourage transparency, and foster a culture of collaboration. Because when we work together as a cohesive unit, there's no limit to what we can achieve. What’s the best part about working at Rival? 🤔 ↳This might sound like a cop-out answer because I feel like it's what most people would say, but I’d have to go with my colleagues at Rival. They are not only smart, each bringing something unique to the table, but they are also extremely kind. They are all passionate about what they do, and everyone is more than willing to help!   How did you find your first few months with the company?  ↳ I started during the pandemic, so everything was virtual. It wasn’t until 6-7 months into the job that I met anyone in person. Since we hadn’t met face-to-face, we used to play a game where we would guess each other’s height. It turned out I was the shortest on the team, even though I have a pretty average height. This is just a company full of really tall people haha.   If you have only one word to describe Rival, what would it be?  ↳ Tall… (yes, I’m bitter …).
