“Is it a math or behavior problem?” #Incentive Plan design can be highly quantitative in nature. Ultimately, you are paying people with a relatively fixed budget. It becomes a math problem that you are looking to solve – pay more to top performers, guarantee more at the bottom, push the middle. We asked that question above to an executive – because math is the easy part. If we truly want to change behaviors, incentives aren’t the only tool. #Skill development. #Process. #Organization design. Decision allocation. Information Distribution. Metrics. These are some of the areas that Greg Shea and Cassie Solomon highlight to ensure that your change initiative has the intended success. There are 8 levers in total and altering at least 4 increases your likelihood of success. But alter the payout curve. Show your mathematical prowess and budget alignment.
