A few weeks ago, I had the honor and pleasure of presenting a Medal of Merit to one of our scouts. We shared the story behind the award, this scout's courageous decisions and actions, with the local paper in the area, and I am so pleased to see they shared the story with our community! https://lnkd.in/gNSrZgEb

Love this! Cultivating a culture that acknowledge the value of mistakes and the unique learning opportunities it creates speeds up development for both people and business! Recognizing the importance of failure is essential for substantial growth and innovation, while its neglect can impede genuine potential and limit valuable learning opportunities. #FailureToPotential
Around this time of year our #SportBroadcast post-grad students, from the outgoing cohort, start releasing their final project documentaries to the public. We ask them to make a 15minute sports documentary for their dissertation, and once they’ve handed in their films & had them marked, we encourage them to post their films on you tube, to put themselves & their work out there. The documentary they produce is hopefully (if they’ve been concentrating!) a culmination of all their skills learnt on the course; filming, gathering & organising content, video editing, storyboarding, storytelling, researching, fixing contributors, interviewing, sourcing archive, choosing locations, lighting, creating graphics, writing scripts, editing sound & working to a duration & a deadline.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing student work on here. Please take a look if you’ve time, and, if you like the films, let the students know, give them feedback; positive, negative, constructive. They need it. Be gentle, this is the first piece of long form content they have ever created. They are at the start of their careers, they are looking for work. Talking of work, my work is done, they are all yours now!
As part of the final act in my MSc studies, I had to produce a short form sports documentary to showcase all I had learned within my studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University. I’m pleased to say that piece is here, it’s called “Dragons In Exile” and I’m already thrilled hearing about how those within the club, and fans of it, are enjoying watching.
This project has been a labour of love, with a personal connection to this historic outfit, I always wanted to do this justice. I wouldn’t be at this point to begin with if it wasn’t for Joe Towns first admitting me onto his course. I owe a lot of what my ability now is to him and the amazing team at Cardiff Met. A special thanks to Jamie Hicks, Ado, Rhys, Steffan Garrero, Caoimhe Hennigan, and all the staff at Cardiff Met for supporting me in my studies and this doc.
Thanks to London Welsh Rugby Club for letting me produce this piece. For all my participants who spoke on camera so passionately, Cai Griffiths. And to Haydn Parry for helping to organise filming locations at the club and kickstarting my journey after my undergrad.
I’d love to hear what you think about this piece! And who knows where the next chapter of London Welsh will take the club, and indeed personally what my next chapter is. Diolch yn fawr 🏴

Looking forward to Royal Shrovetide 2024 with our invited Ford & Stanley guests and hosts next week!
For those unfamiliar with the event, it takes place in Ashbourne, Derbyshire annually every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.
Four facts for those unfamiliar with Shrovetide:
1) Ancient roots: Shrovetide has stood the test of time, tracing its origins to medieval times.
2) Unconventional format: Forget about goalposts and boundaries – in Ashbourne, the entire town transforms into a playground! With minimal rules, the game sprawls across streets, fields, and even the river.
3) Team spirit: the town divides into two teams – the Up'ards and the Down'ards (depending on what side of the River Henmore you were born!) with the goals 3 miles apart.
4) Unconventional football: the ball is larger than a normal football, made from leather and filled with cork (to help it float!).
See you there!
This video almost had me in tears. How dare anyone or any society give girls the impression they are less.
One of the reasons I love being a Firefighter is to extinguish this ‘Dream Gap’. Not just for little girls, but also to show little boys that girls can do anything. Changing the narrative must start young.
Last year I went to an incident where I was the only female firefighter on scene with four trucks (and about 20 men).
Some members of the public gathered nearby, drawn by the flashing lights and hive of activity.
There was a little girl, perhaps 5, standing by watching us intently with her mother, who was telling her “look at all the firemen!”
I wanted this little girl to see that one day, she could be me. I said hello and explained what we were doing and invited her to ask questions.
Her eyes lit up, she smiled and said excitedly - ‘Mummy, mummy - it’s a girl firefighter, I can be one too!’
The profound deeper meaning of her words was a moment I will never forget.
This is the reason why I love community events. Driving the trucks. Speaking with bystanders.
We are firefighters, not firemen. If I’ve inspired even one little girl to challenge that #DreamGap and reach for the stars, then I think I’ve accomplished something good in life.
