We are called to give alms to the poor and reach out to all those who need our help. In this episode, we delve into the importance of charity and working toward social justice. We explore ways to give alms that will bring favour to God and critically analyze the social conditions in many African countries. Our aim is to understand the root cause of poverty, suffering, and misery on the continent and identify ways to bring about positive change through charity and social justice.

Our team works tirelessly to continue the fight for mental health equality. “Humanitarian Acts” must prioritize meaningful impact over superficial displays of project activities. It is disheartening to witness the exploitation of vulnerable individuals under the guise of charity, where their hardships are showcased for mere visual updates. This practice must cease immediately. Genuine due diligence and progress updates are essential, but they differ significantly from these exploitative showcases. Additionally, organizations must practice “Media Release Consent” before posting and sharing on media channels. Let’s commit to fostering dignity and respect in the humanitarian efforts, ensuring that the actions truly benefit those in need rather than serving as self-promotional tools. Imagine facing the prospect of having nowhere to call home. A relationship breakup, a no-fault eviction, being a victim of domestic violence—whatever the cause, the reality of it is terrifying. We would all like to think that in our darkest moment, assistance would be provided by those we elect to administer the essential services that so many of us now rely on. Think again! “Gatekeeping”, is a term attributed to the only too common practice by local authorities, of denying the very assistance they are legally bound to provide to those unfortunate enough to find themselves facing homelessness. Faced with such trauma, would you have the wit to challenge the wall of officialdom, “I know my rights”. Fortunately, those who find themselves in this situation in Bedford, have hope in the form of JustUs. A small, but truly impactful charity, challenging the system on our behalf. One can only imagine the outcomes for those living in areas where such an organization does not exist. This compares to 79.5 for men and 83.1 for women in the general population. • Public Health England estimates that 41% of people classified as rough sleepers have a long-term health condition. This compares to 28% of the general population • Homeless people are 17 times more likely to experience violence than members of the general public. Let us focus on the facts, let us be kind to each and everyone, and lets work together to make things better for those we serve." In 2022, there were an estimated 1.6 million suicide attempts and 49,476 Americans who died by suicide. Suicide is reported as the 11th leading cause of death in the US. (https://lnkd.in/gghMGqzj) As HR professionals, we have a unique opportunity to engage with our employees on a regular basis and make them feel seen. Research shows that simply being there for somebody who is having thoughts of suicide can make a significant difference on whether or not they choose to act on those thoughts. It's important for us all to learn the signs and know how we can be prepared to help employees, friends, family, etc. in their time of need. I recently lost one of my best friends to suicide and have partnered with communities touched by her passing to install benches in their local parks to display the 988 Crisis and Suicide Hotline information and a message to all that we are glad you're here, you are not alone, and there is help available. No words can change the reality for my dear friend Sam. No amount of hugs will bring back her beautiful 13 year old daughter, Poppy. I can only hope that sharing her story will help raise awareness and funds to support more young people than our current systems can cope with. I suspect the trend is the same around the world. In the same years, suicide related deaths in the UK in 10 – 14 year olds has gone from 10 children lost in 2017 to 23 in 2023 (ONS statistics).
