A little belated but I had a fantastic time in Amsterdam for Money2020 Europe.
Huge congratulations to Scarlett Sieber and Zach Anderson Pettet (and many others) for pulling this off once again. While the show in Vegas is unbeatable for the sheer productivity, Amsterdam is a nicer place to spend a few days.
Some things I observed while at the show:
- The AI was understated relative to my expectations (in a good way). I thought it might overtake the content and exhibition hall but instead it was nicely done -- perhaps Zach's "naiture" stage was the physical embodiment of that
- Everyone is talking about APP fraud. The banks I spoke with were not at the show to scope out "innovation" as usual but to look for solutions to tackle their APP fraud problems (take note Tunic Pay)
- I have such a love/hate relationship with Payments, which continues to be massive AND unsolved. Lots and lots of payments solutions of various flavors, trying to get to the real-time, cross-border, risk-free dream.
- Speaking of cross-border, naturally that's still a big theme in Europe where everyone's business is in multiple countries from day 1
- France: everyone was talking about French fintech!
- Women in fintech: just like in Vegas, we got together a wonderful group of women in fintech for cocktails. I look forward to the day when this feels frivolous, but for now it's still a breath of fresh air!
