Even after knowing the brain science behind it and sharing it with clients, I still struggle to be an effective pauser. The times when I have been able to ‘prepare’ for a conversation and consciously know I will use the pause, it works really well. It’s those unanticipated triggers that get an immediate reaction versus a pause and a response with a fully engaged mind. #leadership #executivecoaching
“The right word may be effective, but no word was ever as effective as a rightly timed pause.” ― Mark Twain
Life long journey for me with this! Anticipating that a pause will likely be required at some point in a conversation often helps me. It’s those triggering moments that s eat up on me that are the hardest!
