A daily battle: ��Is my ambition getting in the way??” As the leader of our team I’m starting to wonder if my ambitions are getting in the way of us achieving our short term goals. We’ve invested a great deal of time and energy into expanding our team, the business, and what it is we offer. In the past 6 months we’ve: 🦅Finalized a deal with a new location scripted to open in March 🦅Started a catering branch of the business that focuses on building relationships and offering new f&b services around the island 🦅Added new team members, hired a summer intern, and have grown exponentially. With all the change I consistently get questions like “How are we going to do this?” or “Is that a good idea, what if we fail?” Personally, I don’t fear failing. I fear missing an opportunity that may push our business, our teammates, and our reputation to the next level.. If we fail in some capacity I know that it will teach us lessons we would have never learned unless we tried. I have so much trust in what we’ve built to this point, and not trying is so hard for me! But is that getting in the way? Does the team need more time to adjust to all the change? Am I throwing people to the wolves even if I have full confidence in their ability? Should I slow us down? Focus on the day to day operation and turn the opportunities down? If I turn opportunities down will we get them again? I really don’t know? Any input from my LinkedIn connections?

This past week in our class, we shared a beautiful movie called "The Intern." It was definitely a movie whose essence was diversity in the workplace, and so far it has taught me, with its different examples, how important it is to have a team within a culture that allows for growth. To that end, I have highlighted 3 important benefits of diversity in the workforce: -Enhanced Innovation and Creativity: Teams with diverse backgrounds, ages, and experiences bring a richer pool of ideas to the table. The movie highlights how Ben sparks creativity among Jules' young team, while he too learns new approaches to business, such as leveraging social media. -Stronger Connection with Customers: A diverse workforce better reflects the diversity within a company's customer base. This allows for better understanding of customer needs and facilitates the creation of products or services that resonate with a wider audience. The Intern subtly suggests Jules' company might better connect with older audiences after having Ben on board. -Attracting and Retaining Top Talent: Companies that prioritize diversity are perceived as progressive and inclusive, which makes them more attractive to top talent from a wider pool of job seekers. This competitive edge helps in the recruitment and retention of skilled employees. As you can see, "The Intern," while a light-hearted comedy, provides subtle but important reminders concerning age diversity in particular, and how embracing it can benefit a workplace.
