We’re back for another round of Franklin Fast Five with Divya Kushal, our Application Support Specialist here at Franklin.ai 🤝 So Divya, what’s your role here at Franklin.ai? 🧑💻 As an Application Support Specialist, I play a crucial role in helping people and businesses use computer programs or software smoothly. I work in different projects, trainings, integrations, migrations, testing and documentations. My main job is to make sure that the software works well and helps users do what they need to do. Ok, so how would you describe your role at Franklin.ai to a five year old? 🧒 Alright, imagine you have a really cool toy, like a robot or a computer game. Now, sometimes the toy might not work perfectly, or you might need help figuring out how to play with it. An Applications Support Specialist is like a friendly helper who knows a lot about these toys. They're there to make sure everything works well and help you if you have any questions or if something isn't quite right. They're like toy experts who make sure you have a great time playing with your toys! What advice would you give someone just starting their career? 🎓 Always keep learning, be adaptable and flexible: It is important to stay up to date with the latest developments and trends, no matter what field you are in. The job market and the needs of employers can change rapidly, so it's important to be adaptable and flexible in your career path. Be open to new opportunities and be willing to take on new challenges and responsibilities. In terms of successes, which accomplishments are you most proud of? 🏆 The accomplishment that I’m the proudest of in my career is launching an application for my organisation. The whole organisation was struggling with an app for booking the meeting room when I initially joined, I had to investigate the issue, research, implement and test a new application to replace the existing one, which was a huge success. Tell us something about you that most people don’t know 😮 I jumped out of an airplane! In 2019, I took the leap and fulfilled a lifelong dream to go skydiving. Honestly, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. There’s something about conquering a major fear that gives you an enormous boost of self-esteem and perspective. Whenever I’m nervous about going into an important business meeting or stepping on stage at a big event, I say to myself, “babe, you jumped out of a plane and survived! Growing up, my dream was to work into the technology field. Here I could merge my passion for technology and coding with the joy of helping the others to overcome their digital challenges. 𝟮. We had a few minutes to sit down with Logan and ask him about what he is passionate about: ➀ What has been your favorite project you worked on at Elevator3? Why? Choosing a favorite is challenging because each project offers unique problems to tackle, and the solutions are always rewarding. However, if I had to select one, I'd lean towards the recent project where I developed a custom calendar to view and manage shifts for Noma. This project resonated mainly because of my scheduling and human resources background. Implementing features I had always wished for as a user was immensely satisfying. ② What would you tell a young person wanting to enter the technology workspace? Always remain curious about what you don’t know and stay humble about what you think you do. The tech industry is perpetually advancing. While this can initially seem overwhelming, the joy of learning something new every day is unparalleled. One of the aspects I cherish about consulting is that each day presents a unique learning opportunity, be it grasping the nuances of a client's business or understanding a novel piece of technology. ③ What advice would you offer businesses to succeed in the ever-changing technology space? The nature of problems that technology can address has remained relatively stable over time. If your business consistently spends time on repetitive tasks, there's a high likelihood that those tasks can be automated. While automation methods might evolve, the first step is consistently identifying such tasks. ④ What was it like transitioning from intern to employee at E3? The experience was truly remarkable. The significance of advancing in a career you're passionate about within an organization is monumental. While I cherished my time at Southeastern, transitioning from doing what I loved part-time to full-time was exhilarating. ⑤ What has been your proudest moment at E3, whether related to a project or not? My proudest moment was delegating a project to a newer developer I mentored. Observing her excel in implementing her initial standalone features and adeptly liaising with clients was an absolute delight. ⑥ You moved to Shreveport after college. How do you stay connected with your E3 co-workers? It’s been a whirlwind. My initial 90 days as a Tech BA at Clicks and Mortar has gone by so fast. From immersing myself in the daily rhythms of cross-functional collaboration to analysing and refining operational processes within the product team, every step has contributed to a deeper understanding of the products we are building at C&M. Diving in and taking on a completely new role, I've worked closely with the team to identify feature requirements, define acceptance criteria and provide clear documentation as we go. A key objective of my role in C&M is to bring a positive impact by streamlining processes and aligning the feature roadmap to the overarching company vision. One significant aspect of this journey has been the invaluable connections made during in-person get togethers, hackathons and planning weeks. The vibrant energy of face-to-face interactions has added a human touch to the remote working landscape. Beyond the tasks and strategies, meeting the team in person has highlighted a sense of camaraderie and unity and allowed me to get to know the team on a personal level. This really helps when we are then flat out working to deliver new products and features and dealing with masses of ambiguity and unknowns together. As I reflect on the first 90 days, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment, knowing that each challenge and learning opportunity has led to both personal and professional growth. I am continuously pushing myself outside my comfort zone and prioritising what will bring the most value to the team. The world of a startup is ever-evolving, and I am excited about the ongoing adventure, where unknown challenges promise growth, collaboration, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Here's to the next 90 days and beyond, as we continue to shape the future together at C&M.

Can we real quick talk about the cost of flights these days? Like, for real, for real, I am not amused. Trying to schedule a vacation for the whole family so we can move from gifts for Christmas to just traveling. I'm not even looking for over Christmas Day because I haven't won the lotto (yet). But the cost of flying four people anywhere is insane. I used to be able to fly out of IAH to Mexico for super cheap. Now, it's the same cost to fly to Mexico as I used to pay for Fairbanks, AK, to Baltimore! Yeah, I know. INFLATION. Insane is what I say. But really, it's a lot to fly somewhere these days. So, I'm pivoting. We are going on a cruise. It's nothing we've ever been like, 'Man, I really wanna do it,' but it gets the kids traveling and experiences. And it's the same cost to cruise out of Galveston (a two-ish-hour drive away) as it is to fly us to Mexico. So now, new plans! This is life. This is your career. Very rarely will everything move according to the plan you're mapping out. From projects to positions, you have to be ready to pivot. Never get so stuck on one idea or vision that you can't make changes on the fly. I know agile project management isn't about changing immediately, so PMP people, ignore my use of the word 'agile.' But you have to be agile in your career. Allow it to flex and bend, change, and adapt. Give yourself grace that things are rarely perfect and that sometimes the best things come out of a new direction. But also, always be building your toolbox. -Network -Take courses -Study trends -Research other areas your expertise could apply Never stop looking at the horizon because, as Moana said, you never know how far you'll go! Now, I am still trying to find the best cruise deal because I refuse to throw money away, but at least I have a new heading that we can afford 🤣 #network #agile #careerdevelopment #cruise

Navigating with a compass, not a map 🧭 Following on from my post last week I was reflecting on how we approached our Europe roadtrip over the summer. Backstory: back in 2021 we made the decision to buy a panel van from a local builder. Our vision was to make it into a multi purpose vehicle that not only does the daily school run but could also take the family anywhere we wanted and allow us to explore areas abroad we could only dream of. It was a big project. Required lots of different skills and learning new processes, adapting and evolving as we went along. Fast forward to 2023 we were fortunate to realise our vision and spend 4 weeks exploring Europe. Setting off from channel tunnel, making our way down through Belgium 🇧🇪, Luxembourg 🇱🇺, Germany 🇩🇪, France 🇫🇷, Austria 🇦🇹, Italy 🇮🇹 and Switzerland 🇨🇭. We had a rough route, but nothing booked so we kept our process agile and dependent on changes in the weather, always following the sun ☀️ It was hard work. On the move most days, not knowing where we’d end up each night, but staying focussed on our vision to explore the unknown and enjoy the moment. But the rewards. Oh so worth it. The adventure and experiences we had as a young family of 4 and seeing the kids adapt and learn as we went were outcomes beyond our expectations. I liken this somewhat to business strategy and growth. Having plans are critical. Having fixed plans though can be restrictive. By being flexible, agile, navigating with a compass and not a map, using the insights and information of the moment, always learning and adapting to change rather than resisting it can lead to far greater results and keeps you moving towards the vision. So if you’re feeling like you’re blindly sticking to the strategy you set at the end of 2022 and not moving forward or progressing towards your vision. Perhaps now is the time to pause, reflect and adjust your course as we head towards 2024. Live the adventure ✌️
