It can sometimes be difficult for those of us who have never had to rely on the support of organizations like the St. Louis Area Foodbank to understand why the need in our community is so great. One unexpected life event is all it can take for a household that has been entirely self-reliant, to suddenly need assistance. The fact is hunger can affect anyone. But the good news is, anyone can affect hunger. We can all help make a difference in the lives of our neighbors facing hunger. To learn more, check out https://lnkd.in/d7f3c234. This is why we must build more social and affordable homes.
A new report by cross-party think tank Demos and supported by Grosvenor Hart Homes is published today, highlighting the economic and social impact of failing to join up public services for vulnerable children, young people, and families. Too often the people who most need support in areas such as housing, health, and employment are let down due to the siloed nature of public service delivery, with the knock-on cost of this reaching up to £4.3 billion of public money spent on additional services trying to manage issues rather than prevent them. We are very proud to support this report, being launched in the House of Commons today, with the ambition to bring attention to the issues and stimulate policy innovation that can begin to shift focus from firefighting to prevention. Whoever you are, wherever you are, if you have the wherewithal to be reading this post, you also have the ability to help those in your community who need it. That journey starts today.
Humbled to have led yesterday's breakfast at The Portico where we fed nearly 150 persons without shelter or are in need. We had over 30 awesome volunteers who made everyone feel welcome and wanted. If you are seeking a way to help those in need in Tampa, come check us out as it is our mission to help those who need food and shelter, both immediately and long-term. Rev. Justin LaRosa, LCSW leads this wonderful organization. #endhomelessness #nourishyourheartandsoul

When you have guests over, where do they tend to congregate? We wouldn’t be surprised if you said the kitchen. It's where life happens. 🧑🍳🍳 That's why community kitchens are so important to the Compassion centres that serve children in poverty daily. They create connection. They foster belonging. And most of all, they fill empty bellies. Learn more about how Community Kitchens help fight malnutrition today! https://bit.ly/3SYv7hE
