Attending the 2024 The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture & Design? Join us for "Ethical Decarbonization and Our Building Materials: Constructing a New Future" on June 7th from 2-3:30pm! Ethical Decarbonization is a new term proposed by Grace Farms CEO and Founder Sharon Prince with Anna Dyson (Founder of Yale CEA; Design for Freedom Working Group) which recognizes the link between the climate crisis and the embodied suffering of forced labor in the building materials supply chain. Session attendees will have the impactful opportunity to hear from Sharon and Anna on Ethical Decarbonization as they engage in a Q&A led by Hayes Slade Partner, Slade Architecture, former AIA NY President, and one of the first dozen people to join the Design for Freedom Working Group), who will also review our key resource, the Design for Freedom Toolkit. They'll elaborate on bringing Ethical Decarbonization to the forefront and share insights on decarbonization strategies that protect ecosystems and those that live within them, including leaning on earth-based materials. Our Design for Freedom exhibit–With Every Fiber–(now on view at Grace Farms), presents ethical decarbonization for the first time through research, interactive objects, and notably, an immersive biomaterials installation by Yale CEA. The installation emphasizes the relationship between culture and sustainability by featuring several indigenous materials that are part of UNESCO’s Intangible World Heritage and harvested while keeping ecosystems intact or even improved. The materials are dyed in variations of indigo, referencing a long and complicated history with global trade and labor practices. What’s more, the objects presented in the exhibit are examples of Yale CEA’s research into emerging new materials that are made with circular processes, such as a car part made from agricultural waste – another critical strategy in the path towards achieving net zero within the construction industry. Attend "Ethical Decarbonization and Our Building Materials: Constructing a New Future" to learn about our work to amplify Ethical Decarbonization and how architecture can contribute to a more sustainable future: https://lnkd.in/eeU76tbs #AIA24 #EthicalDecarbonization #DesignForFreedom

🎉 Happy New Year! 🎊 Each year, I choose a word to guide my focus and purpose. This year, that word is Intentional. 🎯 In architecture, as in life, being intentional is the art of making conscious, purpose-driven decisions. It's the energy that fuels our creative spirit and the compass that guides our professional journey 🧭 As architects, we have the power to create more than buildings. This year, I am dedicating myself to crafting new business strategies that enhance our role and value for our clients. By applying our design skills in innovative ways, we can create new opportunities and spaces that truly serve our community 🏢💖 The essence of architecture lies not only in the structures we create but also in the opportunities we uncover. By bringing our design skills into practice in new and unexpected ways, we can break new ground and redefine what architecture means in our modern world 🌐 I'm excited to support Kimberly Dowdell, AIA, NOMAC, and her mission for More as President of the AIA. Her vision aligns with my commitment to purposeful architecture and meaningful change. Together, we can redefine the landscape of our profession 🙌 In navigating the intersection of technology and architecture, I remain committed to treading the path of being intentional. Embracing innovation without losing sight of the essence of the value of the architect is what I aim to achieve this year. 💻🔨 Being intentional in architecture means more than just going through the motions. It's about making deliberate choices that have the power to influence our profession and practice and create meaningful change. Let's design with purpose, build with passion, and lead with intentionality 🏗️🌍 As we embark on this new year, my focus isn't solely on my professional goals. I strive to cultivate deeper connections with my family, friends, and community. Because ultimately, the structures we build are only as strong as the relationships we foster. 🏡💞 Here's to a year of purposeful architecture, conscious innovation, and meaningful engagements. With empathy, kindness, and intentionality, we can shape a brighter, better-built environment 🏡🎉 #PurposefulArchitecture #ConsciousInnovation #MeaningfulEngagements #Empathy

1 day to go ... We are looking forward to seeing you at Architecture Matters 2024 Architecture Matters Crisis vs. Crisis 15 May - 16 May 2024 House of Communication Friedenstraße 24 81671 Munich How can we distribute the costs of green transformation fairly? What new construction options align with climate realities? Is it enough to retrofit existing buildings to solve the housing crisis? Which standards need simplifying? Amid these complex upheavals, how can we tackle social and ecological challenges as interlinked aspects? Does solving one crisis risk creating another? With “Architecture Matters 2024 – Crisis vs. Crisis”, we aim to have an honest discussion on current conflicting priorities and chart a path for workable solutions to shape the future of construction. We combine big-picture thinking with deep dives into key themes: capital markets, building standards, and radical thinking – new ideas from other places. Less frontal, more interaction, and direct exchange: This year’s programme offers a mix of main stage presentations and discussion rounds, a networking lunch, and focus sessions featuring keynote speeches and small group discussions. curated by Nadin Heinich , plan A – consultancy and business networks #architecturematters2024 #am24 #crisisvscrisis #city #futurecity #architecture #realestate #municharchitecture #munich #conference #houseofcommunication #architecturematters
