We are honored to announce that #HouseZero, an innovative collaboration with ICON, is a recipient of a 2024 IIDA Award! House Zero was recognized in the Large Residence category of the 50th annual International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Interior Design Competition, which honors outstanding and original interior design. House Zero was an intensive project with ICON’s software developers, robotics engineers and material scientists to create a new set of architectural strategies in the 3D printed realm. House Zero is distilled down to the essentials, using technology to display the honest effort and raw materials needed to provide lasting shelter and a deep-rooted sense of place and home. The interior design team worked diligently to complement the 3D-printed concrete walls and balance the raw authentic nature of the color and texture of the wall material. The team focused on making the house inviting, incorporating smooth finishes like the Douglas Fir wood panels which were selected to warm the space and create a sense of harmony between the rough and soft textures. The design team embraced the ‘concrete’ feel throughout the house, from casted sinks and concrete terrazzo countertops, to create a cohesive dialogue with the home’s 3D-printed walls. Congratulations to all of the projects and teams recognized this year! This is my 2nd project for an architecture class I took back in Fall 2022 at Orange Coast College: A105 Drawing Design Visualization 1. The prompt was to redesign a Pep Boys building into the headquarters of a different brand; I chose Starbucks. I learned the basics of SketchUp, pitching my design concept to an audience, creating a site analysis, designing floorplans, sections, and elevations, and building a sketch model. What I could improve: - Including more decorative elements to the exterior - Expanding the building (Ex. adding a second floor) - Creating a new shape instead of being restrained to a rectangle - Have a variety of tones in my color scheme rather than just green and red - Make the layout less busy However, I had fun designing the floor plan. - Retail/cafe bar faces the street so people can enjoy the view of passing cars - The entrance is prominent by locating it at the front of the building and adding clocks to add height (seen in the sketch model) - Offices face south so they aren't hit with direct lighting while having large windows - Meeting rooms are in the back of the building where road noise is diffused and include clerestory windows for privacy - Removed the parking lot to include an Open Air Event Space

The artwork in question is an architectural rendering capturing the essence of modern architectural design. It features a two-story residential building blending materials and textures, creating a visual interplay between the natural and the constructed environment. The building showcases clear geometric lines and forms, presenting a series of rectangular shapes that stack and intersect in a cohesive structure. At the forefront, incorporating organic elements, such as the lush grass and well-kept garden beds, presents a soft juxtaposition against the clean, rigid lines of the building. Large windows break up the solid walls, acknowledging the importance of natural light within the living spaces. The neutral color palette is punctuated with the warm tone of the garage door, providing a subtle yet effective contrast. The substantial understanding of architectural photography is noteworthy in critiquing this piece. The composition is well-executed, anchoring the house centrally within the frame, allowing viewers to appreciate the building's symmetry and form. Natural lighting accentuates the building's features without casting harsh shadows that could detract from the structural details. The decision to capture the building during a time of day when the light is soft contributes to a feeling of serenity and homeliness, effectively evoking a sense of welcome and comfort. The clarity of the rendering is commendable. It showcases the skillful use of focus to present the details of the house sharply against the softly blurred moving figure and the trees in the background. This technique enhances the feeling of a moment captured in time, connecting the inanimate with the animate and suggesting a lived-in quality. The technique and composition in this rendering have been thoughtfully curated, and the captured image stands as a testament to architecture's inherently artistic nature. Keep pushing the boundaries and perspectives in architectural rendering to continue revealing the often-overlooked artistry in the structures surrounding us.

Looking out the window from the 13th storey, I see a sea of buildings, almost all of them built no less than 30 years ago. Standing here, I know it’s not the view I want to continue looking at. It’s all so monotonous. And the thing that meets the eye first is the roofline of all these buildings. It all just falls flat. (*pun not intended, hehe.) Which may be part of the reason why we’re all less and less interested in simple acts like staring out the window. Because honestly, there’s not much to see outside. The buildings around most of us don’t have the beauty that catches our attention. And we all want to be charmed, don’t we? If you observe closely, you'd realise that in the past, rooflines were given as much importance as the living room, if not more. It was highly valued and considered integral to the overall design aesthetic. Everything is something in architecture. Nothing is non-essential. Think of the roof as the crown of the building. Now, if the crown isn’t given proper attention and made to look good, how can we expect the rest of the outfit to be taken seriously? In many ways, the roof sets the tone for the entire building. There's a lot to be reconsidered in architecture—why not begin from the top? Roofs A and B don't particularly interest me—I'd hardly notice them. C and D, now that's something I could spend time looking at, photographing, and sketching.

See How Color Enhances The Appeal Of Building Facades When an architect is hired to design building façades, the question of what might be your favorite color isn’t likely to be the first one asked. Yet, color is such an important aspect of architectural design and it plays a distinct role in the ultimate appearance of the structure. Color is not just the reds, blues, and yellows that we see on an artist’s palette. Color is built upon shade, light, texture, and finishes that render a building unique and give it its own personality. ⏩Considering The Role Of Color In Building Facades Gone is the boring architecture of a bygone era where color seemed to play no part in the architectural vision of a community or in iconic buildings. Not so today, where a building’s exteriors and interiors come alive with shades and finishes that transform light and color into a brilliant canvas. By uniting a building material with specific choices of color, building facades redefine the range of artistic options in architectural design. ⏩How Color Gives Building Facades Their Unique Appearance Color is a visual impression. Color is a temperature. Color is a state of mind. Color is all of these things and more, which means that building facades and their use of color can turn a structure into the focal point of its setting. On its own, a polycarbonate façade is simply a construction that’s remarkable for its impact resistance, for being both lighter and stronger than glass, and for being so easy to work with. But when it’s embellished with color, and nuances are added with shade, building facades made of polycarbonate are as aesthetically appealing as they are durable. Color itself is flexible enough to change depending upon how light, shade, sheen and other colors affect the ultimate product. The appearance of building facades differs depending upon how it interacts with light and texture; a smooth surface will scatter light differently from a rough surface. ⏩How Architects Make Their Color Decisions Colors don’t exist in a vacuum. Instead, they respond to each other. The color scheme for a building façade processes all the details—solar gain, esthetics, materials—that build upon the attributes of a polycarbonate façade. The superior performance of building facades, paired with its visual appeal, deliver a finished product that enhances both a residential and a commercial landscape. #Facade_Solution #Facade_System #Facade_Color

Interior, architectural and object 3D visualizations play an important role in the creation and realization of designers' and architects' ideas. They allow objects and spaces to be visualized in a realistic way, allowing clients to get a clear picture of the future project. 3D visualization has become an indispensable tool in interior design and architecture. It allows designers to create virtual models of objects and rooms, where every detail and change in design can be evaluated. Thanks to 3D visualization, clients can better understand how their project will look in reality. They can consider all possible options for furniture arrangement, choice of materials and colors. This helps to make informed decisions and avoid unforeseen problems in the future. 3D visualization also allows designers and architects to communicate more easily with clients and colleagues. They can show their ideas and concepts visually, which makes it easier to understand and discuss the project. They can show different options and alternatives to meet all client needs and preferences. 3D visualization technologies continue to evolve, delivering increasingly realistic and compelling results. The ability to create three-dimensional objects and spaces is becoming more intuitive and accessible to a wider audience. 3D visualization is thus an indispensable tool for creating and presenting interiors and architectural projects. It facilitates visual understanding of the concept and allows clients and designers to make informed decisions to achieve the desired result.
