"The 80's" November 15, 1986 The "License to Ill" Plane landed... The Beastie Boys altered the direction of popular music at least three times, and lived to tell the tale. Their 1986 debut album, Licensed to III, was the first hip-hop album to reach Number One on the charts, and did more than any other recording to introduce the genre to the suburban masses. “The 80’s” November 2, 1988 - The Morris worm or Internet worm is one of the oldest computer worms distributed via the Internet, and the first to gain significant mainstream media attention. The worm exploited weak passwords. It resulted in the first felony conviction in the US under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Though Morris said that he did not intend for the worm to be actively destructive, instead seeking to merely highlight the weaknesses present in many networks of the time. "The 80's" delivered with the iconic Space Shuttle. The first (STS-1) of four orbital test flights occurred in 1981, leading to operational flights (STS-5) beginning in 1982. Five complete Space Shuttle orbiter vehicles were built and flown on a total of 135 missions from 1981 to 2011. The Space Shuttle helped build the International Space Station (ISS), the largest structure in space, and launched most of its modules. The ISS still orbits today and conducts hundreds of science experiments each year.
