Today, the sunshine was beaming for the Sunshine Committee event at our Buffalo, NY office. The Ted's Hot Dogs food truck visited to serve our employees a delicious lunch, and the weather was perfect. This is just one of the many fun Sunshine events planned across our offices this summer. 😎🌭 🌞 #culture #greatplacetowork #sunshineevents #foodtruck #tedshotdogs #buffalony

From Blight to Bright! 🌟 The adaptive reuse of Buffalo Public School #75 is revitalizing Buffalo’s East Side. This historic project reinvigorates the community by converting a long-vacant school into 47 affordable housing units and creating new rental homes on surrounding parcels. The project supports veterans and enhances the neighborhood with modern living spaces and community areas. School 75 was originally built in 1925 as a public elementary school but closed in 1979 due to declining enrollment. By the early 2000s, the building was completely vacant and fell into serious disrepair for 20 years. For two decades, the building had a blighting impact on the neighborhood where it is located. Today, School 75 has been preserved and repurposed into 47 affordable and permanent supportive housing units, residential programming space, and office space for Western New York Veterans’ Housing Coalition, Inc. – the area’s only not-for-profit organization specifically dedicated to serving those who have served our country. Additionally, 25 vacant parcels surrounding the school have been repurposed with well-designed rental homes which complement the reuse of School 75. The individual units are spacious and modern, and the community room, courtyard, and yards of the townhomes provide welcoming and enjoyable spaces to the families who reside at School 75. Discover the incredible journey from decay to renewal and the impact The Charlie Bush Building is making on the community here: https://lnkd.in/etHxnfnj 🔗 #CommunityRevitalization #AdaptiveReuse #BuffaloNY #SupportiveHousing #HistoricPreservation #VeteransSupport

LaBella surveyors Dustin Utter and Damion Lozier demonstrated basic survey techniques for a group of interns, young engineers, and other curious staff at our Latham, NY office. They covered essential topics such as setting up modern surveying equipment, establishing a base line, taking measurements, and recording data. A topographic map of the survey area will be prepared and used as a training tool for entry level engineers, providing them with a map they can compare with real-world conditions. The Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery (PRC) is a 165-acre historic cemetery and certified arboretum overlooking the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, New York. Like many historic cemeteries, the site’s data was largely paper-based, and there was a need to bring new technology and best practices into the cemetery’s operations. LaBella’s Data Intelligence team worked with our Survey & Mapping group to create a Geographic Information System (GIS) base map of sections, plots, and lots. We digitized records, created web maps, and developed an interactive web and mobile app to enhance visitor experiences and streamline staff workflows. The tools we created allow visitors to explore the grounds, learn about notable trees, and navigate with ease using our GIS technology. LaBella in the Community (LINC) is our employee-led, grassroots, committee-based service program that organizes volunteer opportunities to build and advance community partnerships. LINC was very busy this spring and we’d like to take a moment to highlight some of the activities the group planned and coordinated throughout the local communities where we live and work.
