I told myself “Don’t be one of those people that spin the RWC final into a business post. But then i had a good thought. Oh well, I tried. Even though the decision was frustrating, and could have easily been a different outcome, South Africa will get more out of winning than New Zealand would. As a brand, the Springboks leave it all on the field. You can see how much they want it, not just for them, but as a nation. The drive to win on behalf of a nation in need of some hope has to be supported, even if it goes against our own. We all have a goal to reach, so well done. Even the best in the world need to lose to learn, and to grow a long term strategy. In my years of retail, i respected the opposition, even recommending them in some cases. I do the same now with the brands my company represents. You need to appreciate who your opposition team are, know their differences, and accept the losses. If you pitch your own case, your vision, your direction, the right staff come along who get it. Then as a team, we journey out to find clients and customers who understand our why. When we win, we have long term customers, and when we lose, we understand that we didn’t align, or we need to rethink our overall ‘why’. Do you have a team goal that is so well ingrained in the DNA of your brand, that when you find your audience, they don’t just buy your product, they become a loyal supporter? If not, let’s all learn from our losses, and make a plan for the future.
